So I was listening to Atlas Shrugged again. It is full of all kinds of good messages but this one stands out and needs to be said aloud more often;

“Did you really think we want those laws observed?" said Dr. Ferris. "We want them to be broken. You'd better get it straight that it's not a bunch of boy scouts you're up against... We're after power and we mean it... There's no way to rule innocent men. The only power any government has is the power to crack down on criminals. Well, when there aren't enough criminals one makes them. One declares so many things to be a crime that it becomes impossible for men to live without breaking laws. Who wants a nation of law-abiding citizens? What's there in that for anyone? But just pass the kind of laws that can neither be observed nor enforced or objectively interpreted – and you create a nation of law-breakers – and then you cash in on guilt. Now that's the system, Mr. Reardon, that's the game, and once you understand it, you'll be much easier to deal with.”

Sound like anything going on today? If you have not read this book I highly suggest it.

So on a similar but more funny side of it. Here is a quote from The Simpson Movie;

EPA Official: S-sir, I'm afraid you've gone mad with power...
Russ Cargill: Of course I have. You ever tried going mad without power? It's boring. No one listens to you!

And as of today, with the Republicans caving in, the Executive Branch of Government has seized, and centralized even more exclusive power.
Amnesty and wide open borders are next, then our full surrender of our 2A rights, and then the 1st Amendment will be an easy one to oppress... That is except for those who side with the Executive Branch of government. Their 1St Amendment rights will flourish.
The debt is now going to explode

So why is the stock market up? Serious question, as I just don't understand why it should go up with all the problems facing us. People say it's the rich people getting richer but a lot of regular folks invest also so I am not seeing what conspiracy theorists see. Thanks in advance for replies.

You're right Nwcid, the good messages are many in Rand's book. The Objectivism she wrote about is what we need in govt. now. She was a bit of a prophet all right however I found Atlas Shrugged a bit of a slog. I was hopeful when the movie came out but bad acting, directing etc. put an end to that. Youtube has the Donahue and Mike Wallace interviews with her though and they are excellent IMHO.

Status Quo, including the replacement Fed chairperson is good short term stability that investors like. The money will continue to flow for now. When the Taper begins, watch out!

The fed digitizes 85 billion a month. This money goes to banks and investment firms that invests it in the stock making it go up. the majority of people in the market are institutional investors. People that move millions at a time. Right now other than money in the market like 401ks no New private investment is happening. The moment the fed raises interest or slow down the printing of money. Hyperinflation and some said the end of the dollar from the devaluation of printing will happen. Either way this will not end well for our economy all about the time Obammy leaves office.

Thanks, DMax!

Dmax - it is so nice to see someone who understands why the Casino stock market is raging.

Without the Fed propping it up with billions of monopoly dollars it would be an entirely different scenario ... and that house of cards is doomed. Interest rates are creeping up, ever so slowly like a train starting off from a dead start.

Remember when Bernanke said 'inflation will NEVER happen?' LOL Ahh - crooks have no shame.

If you think the real estate market is in the crapper now, try selling or buying a home when interest rates are back at 7-8%. You won't be able to give a home away.

Even though I clicked "like" I do not like it.

But I do agree, I think we are going to see lots of stupid stuff from Obama.

Obama is pushing immigration reform, already, his version is certain to screw over America.

Before being labeled something bad, my wife's dad is from Guatemala (yes he came here legally) and my dad is a first generation American.

Obama will try to fracture the republicans more before the 2014 elections, so the D's win back the house.

And your seat is where? Right beside him ?

You appear to have a tough time dealing with facts. 70% of the country blames republicans for the shutdown, and Boehner lost control of the tea baggers, and even McConnell can't gain a unified stance from his party.

But to answer your question: compared to the dogma laden tea baggers that almost crippled the country, and probably lost the next round of elections for the Republicans, yes, I thought Obama played a much more focused game.

You can bet that if republic did not have so many low T gurl lib in the party results would have been different. So don't you mean obammy played low info voter and used the media with more focus. Does anyone on the left care about the economic distruction that is coming? You won't be immune to it. Libs will live and die by there polls enjoy

You can do the worrying for me.

I am old enough to have seen cheap gas, cheap smokes, nothing worse than crabs for STDs, and haven't gone hungry yet, so consider it a very fortunate life. I started out with virtually nothing going for me except to be a white guy in our society and went from living off a 15 cent hamburger and a 9 cent Mars bar a day (washed down with drinking fountain water), to working for an education, getting work, and eventually owning a house. So If the SHTF tomorrow I won't have many, if any, regrets.

Anyone who speaks as you do of their political opponents as "TEA baggers" is lacking in both tact and education. I am a member of the TEA (taxed enough Already) movement and if you called me a TEA bagger to my face I am certain that you would regret it, sir.

You are right about one thing...you ARE fortunate to have lived in this time. The cheap smokes, easy living and cheap gas was paid for with the blood of patriots. Being a white male is now something to be ashamed of by the left in this country as is evidenced by your above statement of white guilt.

It's truly sad that the old-timer Democrats who loved this country were replaced by the leftist slime that sits in judgement of every single wrong this country has ever committed and feels the need to CONSTANTLY remind us of only our faults. We know who you people are...The same folks who feel the need to make movies about slavery every few years so we can be reminded of the injustices that occured hundreds of years ago as if they are still occurring today so that the wound NEVER heals, because if it heals, they will have one less thing to use to bludgeon the nations pride with to pursue their radical and transformational socialist agenda.

Yes, everything they do...you do is to this end. It is, in a very literal sense, a mental illness. Besides the fact that it is a sad testament to how destructive the left in this country can be as they use the first amendment of the constitution to erase the 2nd, 10th and someday - mark my words - the 4th, 5th and 14th amendments. Then, there will no longer be an America. We are almost there.

Best Post Ever!
Peetar, when you're in Central Oregon anytime...PM me, I'll buy the drinks. Semper Fi

Peetar, my apologies for the Tea bagger verbiage. It's kind of common parlance so never gave it a second thought, but I'll endeavor not to use it if you find it offensive.

BTW, I agree with simon99 - your post was good.
