I am a Christian but I am far from perfect. Not a religious discussion just a personal fact. I am the kind of guy that will do anything I can to help a person who is kind to me and shows me respect. But if any person is rude, mean, hateful, disrespectful to me then I have a really, really hard time turning the cheek...so to say.

So I got rear ended and when the WSP came I gave him my lic., reg., ins., CPL. He looked at the cpl, asked if I had the gun on me. I said "yes sir" and he said "ok" and handed my cpl back and continued on writing the report. I kept my sidearm the whole time... Nice guy too.

Dmancornell, I read all your post on here, wow, you hate police. I am sorry you had bad interactions. I worked 2 1/2 years as a city cop, 2 as a military cop, never stole a thing, gave ticket, never had a quota tho, felt like pulling someone over for speeding was the right thing to do, took a bullet in the side of my vest once in a drug raid, that guy was a winner, 13 year old boys and girls selling for him...but the police are bad?

You really must remember that he said he works for Intel and is keeping the west Portland economy going. He has that typical Intel entitlement mindset and attitude and probably thinks their employees should get the huge tax breaks that the company does, for all the money they are putting into the local economy. After all, it is their presence that helps bring up the number of service wage jobs needed to support their consumptive habits and lifestyle.

And if you have ever been around an Intel campus during start or shift changes, you know damn well that every one of those drivers deserved the tickets they got based upon the speeds I see them driving and their total disregard for traffic control devices and other drivers. Complying with a lowered speed limit has nothing to do with traffic or public safety and has everything to do with hosing Intel employees for money. Pesky traffic tickets...takes away from the 100K plus they make a year.

Well said, I was just in that area in hillsboro 20 min ago and I understand now why they lowered the speed limit.......

It's not an entitlement attitude to work 60+ hour weeks for years on end then have the gall to think we should keep more our money. An entitlement is contractual, usually for no work done. You know, like when cops camp out, inhale donuts and steal money from motorists under the guise of "public safety".

Service wage jobs... hmmm... yeah those 10k workers we hired for fab construction must be getting paid service wages. Largest property tax in the county, so entitled. $20 billion invested into the state, how dare they negotiate for lower taxes!

Lastly, LOL @ asking a rhetorical question to state that tickets aren't money collection devices even as you note our supposed salaries.

I guess that largely depends on the individuals personality. It's easy to be respectful to someone who is being nice to you. It's more of a stretch to be respectful to someone who is being an absolute turd to you. That person may be more deserving of a fist to the mouth however maintaining a respectful composure is far better testimony to your character. That doesn't mean you rolled over and wet yourself by letting this person run all over you. Don't get me wrong sometimes an old fashioned fist in the mouth is what it takes to reestablish respect.

When you are at the check out line at the grocery store, or at a city/county/state office or being spoken to to by LEO or dealing with anyone who is working they are conducting business. Rarely is it personal.

Now if it's a close friend/wife/family member and they are disrespectful on a personal level then you have a choice to make a) ignore it (bad choice in my opinion) or b) hold the boundary line of respect (which can be done without loosing your own self respect). It may require some explaining but so what.

Your mentality and attitude sounds strangely familiar to a Seattle based Corporation in Seattle. Big B employees act, whine, cry as if they deserve everything to be handed to them. Rather childish in many regards. If you have ever seen them go on strike you would know what I mean.

I worked a contract for Intel six or seven years ago. The traffic around their campus is absolutely terrible, and it made me want to drive like an arschloch. I probably would have been targeted, but I purposefully drive a car that doesn't look like a rich person drives it, and I drive it like a guy who doesn't want to be pulled over.

My current contract has me commuting close to a hundred miles a day from the Mt. Hood highway to Wilsonville. I was pulled over for speeding once in Canby in September. The officer never asked, I never volunteered any CHL information. I went to pay the ticket four hours later, and was offered the opportunity to retain my spotless driving record by taking a 2-hour traffic safety course that cost 60% of what paying the ticket itself would have. Everyone was very polite and helpful, the only thing anyone did wrong was to drive 52 in a 35 zone.

Of all the cities I've worked in, the one with the most ever-present traffic police was Montreal. Traffic is terrible, and they're everywhere. Germany seemed relaxed comparatively, but only because almost all of their tickets are via camera. (If you didn't know, despite the rumors that there are no speed limits on the autobahn, German states generally have very strict driving rules, and regularly revoke licenses, either temporarily or permanently.)

We're not unionized. Big difference.

Oddly enough, I've done work for both companies, and the attitudes are very similar. Especially those in middle management. I'm very happy to call myself a small-business owner who can choose whether or not to do business with such people.

The attitude that gives you the right to disregard posted speed limits and then botch like a little girl when you get ripped for speeding ? And because you work 60 hours weeks, (join the club by the way, a lot of non Intel people work a hell of a lot more than that), you should get a pass on speeding tickets ? Do not disobey posted speed limits and you will keep your money.

With Washington County / City of Hillsboro property taxes on Intel capped at $ 100 million assessed value, pretty sweet deal for Intel. Tell us you knew that.

LOL, the criminal nature of the state has nothing to do with workloads. You brought up our supposed entitlement attitude and sky-high salaries, not me.

A sweet deal would be no taxes and no confiscation. Now that it matters to the workers, who get any no tax breaks at all.
