I'm curious. Where in CA did you live and could you tell us what it took to get your concealed carry there?

I had some concerns from this recent transplant from the People's Republic of California, regarding obtaining y Oregon Carry Permit. I knew it wouldn't be the hassle it is in California, but I didn't see that I would benefit all that much by sitting through another training and then proving proficiency with my weapons - probably the trainer would benefit ($) but, from what I've seen these classes seem to be the same mostly.

I can pass on the fact, as opposed to random musings from those who like me weren't certain, that when one presents at the Josephine County Sheriffs office with a valid and current California Concealed Carry Permit, it does indeed count as your experience with weapons, education in the classroom, and must count for some major background checks since I had my hard copy Oregon permit four days after wiping ink off my fingers in my mailbox.

Note: I did wait to apply until I had lived in the state the 3 months - since that seemed to be the general consensus for residency (also I was too busy unpacking).

Now, I'm like what appears to be every third person on the street in this great state: Armed and exercising my legal right to bear arms.

Just thought I'd share.

Thank you very much for the warm welcome, especially as a refuge from below the border.

I come from what we used to refer to as Upper Northern California, and then Southern Oregon But In California, but now it's just the weed capital of the world: Humboldt County.

I left for several reasons, but mainly because my mother lives close by and she needed me closer as she ages.

The region I lived in 90% of my life has dramatically changed over the past 10 years. The drug culture hasn't done our county any favors at all.

To obtain my CCD was no cake walk, but basically I took an evening class, a couple of tests for idiots, shot all my carry weapons (3 is the limit in California and you are limited to the specific weapon on your CCD), and had a personal interview with the sheriff. I had a background test with the Feds, and the state. And three months later I got my license.

I got mine in record time according to all sources. Most people take 6-9 months if they get them at all. You must show a "cause" other than your second amendment right to have the CCD. Like safety, carrying large sums of cash for work, traveling rural roads.

Once you have it there are a few restrictions, like federal buildings, schools, and casinos, but otherwise, you are gold, go anywhere, any city, even the ones that are "no carry" city's like San Fran.
