AWD Chevy Astro van. Carry chains, a bed, some tools, spare fuel and some basic supplies and it'll outlast the length of gasoline being useable.
Nifty suggestion.

Been eyeballing the full-size vans that have oversized full length higher sided roof racks.

Seen several down here (S Oregon), some with ?water tanks up there. Nondescript, normally white full size vans with side windows.. Like would have row seating. Perhaps wildfire crew transport or agriculture transport. Dunno. Nothing pops up on quickie google-foo for images.

I think I know the kind you'te talking about, Ford E series full size vans with large aluminum cargo boxes on top with angled front ends and usually a full length tool box on top, and a ladder or two?

I saw this one a few weeks ago, I like it 👍

Oh crap. Off to Ebay to try and find a $25 cap I'll wear once, not get the reactions I wanted, then off to the back of the closet it goes ......

Honestly, American "regime change" looks more like this ;

But could easily turn into this

From Syria and other Middle East countries; though I'd expect a not insignificant number of the below to show up in civilian hands, particularly those who have registered pre1986 MGs (like the folks who used to go to Knob Creek)

I'm sure someone has already said it here, but

MOPAR or NO CAR! Find anything with a slant 6 in it. Check the oil, start it up. Most of the time, plus drum brakes who can't fix those???
Parts supplies and shops who actually know what they're doing...are an ever dwindling resource, unfortunately. Which is why many recommend 4x4 systems and diesels.

I can fix drum brakes, no problem. What I haven't figured out yet is why I should go through such an aggravation for less efficiency compared to the ease and speed of dealing with disc brakes. To each his own, but I'll take disc over drum all day every day.

yes of course, efficiency being what it is, but simplicity's sake IMHO, thinking of my own tools/skill set etc.

Interesting designs for cargo bikes, tricycles and minimalist/simple quadricycles

Shopping cart basket on a custom welded setup. That grey thing is the steering arm apparently

Cargo tricycle in progress, looks stupid simple. A 2 wheeled garden dump cart or similar, some welding, simple pin swivel

And last, a H framed quadricycles, again, simplicity reigns. This looks like it'd be a speedy downhill vehicle, and may be the easiest to setup into a sort of 50cc kart with a rear basket. Though.... Foot rests/bars definitely needed :s0140:

These are not exactly What I envision as "Prepper vehicles". I'm thinking more like something you would see in 4WD Magazine
Nah. Practicality is realistic. I mean come on. As cool as 4WD stuff are.... Practically they suck for SHTF/EOTWAWKI/Post-apocalyptic preparations

There's a reason the word Survivalist came first in the thread title ;)

Edit. But all the above requires first and foremost; an intact infrastructure of fuel supply, tires, parts availability, ease of finding shops still working, garages, maintenance supplies, access to places, and the faith that other people won't try to hijack your vehicles.

Vehicles can go a long time without service, and fuel doesn't go bad as fast as many people claim (generally those without experience who are just parroting what they read on the internets).

This is especially true in a scenario where you are not putting daily miles on a vehicle.

In many scenarios, a BOV is used to get you home or to your BOL, then afterwards, hardly used if at all.

rabbit hole here:

Convert vehicle to electric drive, use a 3 fuel generator to power the electric motor. Never worry about single fuel source again. Or find an old deuce-and-a-half and run that engine on old motor oil. Not going to run out of that in the end of the world, all the dead cars will be full of it.
