I am considering having some work done on my 30-06. The work includes, but may not be limited to ...

• bolt reshape/checker
• engraving
• stock cleanup/checkering/finishing
• rebore (.35 Whelen)
• metal refinish (could be tasteful cerakote, could be traditional blueing/browning)

Any leads?

+1 for Velzey. Don't know if MountainBear is still 'Smithin, no harm in askin. Brimstone in the 'Couve are good, NW firearms also good!

Engraving, checkering, and reboring are all specialties that will need to go through individuals. There are very few smiths left that can do all that.

@Velzey does do excellent work. I know he does his own coating (I use a quality subcontractor). Reboring I would use JES reboring. Either of us can likely do a stock refinish. Same with bolt remodeling. I don't know if Velzey metal checkers. I don't. Engraving will have to be sent out. I prefer someone else get the "fun" of checkering stocks. Don't know if velzey checkers stocks or not.

I'm sure either of us would be happy to offer our opinion on the project.
