I've built many AKs including AK74s. Can you explain the "substandard" barrel comment? Are you assuming an non-chrome lined bbl is substandard?

Yes- In my very humble opinion,as far as AKM type rifles, new condition original mil spec, chrome lined, produced in state operated Combloc weapons factory, numbered to the kit barrel, is superior and more desirable (and more valuable) than an aftermarket/commercial, non chrome lined US made barrel. Especially when shooting corrosive primed ammunition.
