I don't know if it was mentioned? Racoons are notorious for carrying rabies. And generally that means the animal needs to be put down to get brain tissue for testing.

While this is true it was mentioned several times it was quite obvious neither had rabies due to how 'normal' and active the animals were however what could have been done differently is maybe it could have been handled more 'professionally' such as maybe send a vet to inspect the animals instead of treating it like a terrorist threat.

When a dog bit in the SW and the owner could not show proof of vaccine the owner had two choices. The dog could be put down so they could check, or the owner could surrender the dog, Animal Control would keep it for observation until cleared and they would return it to owner. Owner had to pay for the boarding of the dog. If those morons who killed this animal believed either of them could be infected they could have done this. They are only throwing out stuff like this now because they were so delusional they are actually shocked at how this blew up in their face.
