Where the wife works it ended up being the newest hires at basic positions where making just a buck .50 less than the wife with 20+ years! In a middle management position. And let me tell you, most of the newer people have no idea of what a "Work Ethic" is!

Like the old saying goes, move out to move up. And it works. Every time I moved to a new job I was able to negotiate much better pay and, in particular, more generous amounts of vacation time. And in the scheme of things, those were small potatoes. I had a coworker who moved from the Bay Area to Los Angeles and negotiated a new house that was paid for by her new employer.
