I read an article yesterday that said car manufactures were going back to knobs because touch screens were distracting drivers and causing accidents.
I think that's a good idea.
I can see that. The multi-function touch screens actually require some brainpower and focus to use. First you need to navigate through who knows how many menus to find the function you want, then you need to decipher how to change the setting you are after on that page. That can be difficult to do while keeping your eyes on the road even when you know exactly which buttons to press, let alone if you are trying to adjust something you rarely touch. They basically guarantee distracted driving just to operate the car's features.

But knobs are easy to understand. You can find what you need at a glance and do not have to keep looking at it to make the adjustment. The tactile feedback lets you know you got the change correct so you do not even have to glance back down to verify. We never should have abandon them.

At Christmas dinner dessert one year, I shot a little whipped cream in my palm and asked my 8 YO granddaughter "Does this smell funny to you?" When she sniffed it, I smushed it in her face whereupon she started crying. Dirty looks from all ensued until I let her do it to me and wore the whipped cream for a few minutes. It's a [grand]dad's responsibility to teach these lessons...

Yep, it's good to teach the young ones how to deal with things they may not like. Leading by example is a great way to do that.

The only touch screens I like are on my iPad and iPhone. I agree that touch screens can be a driving distraction.
