In deference to @Nibbs, here is a thread for sporters with that little bit of oddness. Not necessarily kitchen table butcher jobs, but something a little odd or nice.

Heres my Gewehr 98 Haenel Mauser. The original straight grip stock has a pistol grip grafted on. Even has a 1922 Springfield buttplate fit...

Kind of a nice old school sporter...

Here’s two more, just because. The one on the left is a Swedish 6.5 in a mannlicher stock with a butter knife bolt handle.

The one on the right is a 98 Krag with a Lyman 34 rear sight and ramp front sight. The Bishop stock has had the plastic and white line spacers removed. Now has an ebony tip, steel grip cap, and red pachmayr recoil pad...

Here is a unique 1898 Krag someone spent allot of time on. It started life out as a rifle and got converted into a hunting carbine at some
Point. Original stock has been thinned way down, And hand stippling was applied. Bore is still very nice. No extra holes in it anywhere.
Someone long ago bought a surplus rifle and made themself a nice little hunting rifle.

There's just a lot of cool factor in these old rifles. I have a couple that are funky becasue they have left hand cheep pieces for the left handed shooter such as myself. I'll also point out something really funky about one of them, as I post pictures:

Like I said, left hand cheek piece, pre 64 model 70 extractor, straightened bolt handle, big belly that holds 6 30-06 cartridges and the most funky of all, a dang m14 flash hider:

I rarely ever show this pic, because I hate that dang flash hider on it. Someone thought it was a damn cool idea though (shaking head here)... This rifle also has a cock on open conversion and I installed a Timney trigger and later found out that's not possible with the dayton traister kit... Well its working perfectly and safely. Kind of like my AR10 with its BAD lever that everyone says you can't do as well...

Here's my latest m1917 sporter, but it was actually a factory sporter made in England. My screen name sake rifle: BSA model E. The funky part about it is it is chambered in 308 Norma and I love it!!!!
