A better idea for SHTF then a full auto has come out of our countries experience in our most recent wars.
A designated marksmen with good scoped semi-auto could be put to good use covered by those providing covering fire.

There you go! Slow accurate fire with a caliber that produces hits in a vital areas up to and including extended ranges. Most shoulder held full autos also are mainly close up and personal at best with sub performing pistol type rounds due to the recoil control factor.
