It's still CNN and this one opinion piece does not change my attitude of disdain for these venomous anti-American news snakes.
That said, I'm hoping that the uneducated and uninformed liberal followers will see that gun owners are not evil, vile killers but law abiding citizens expressing our 2A rights.

I would have told her that we (the law abiding) are not the problem it's the criminals and the mentally ill that are the problem, don't tread on me rings true and needs saying.

You aren't going to get an anti to listen to you. However this article gives some insight to them in a forum the will read and believe (they can't help themselves...)

Incremental articles are a good way to get in front of some people.

CNN is just Infotainment (even my auto correct has that word embedded). Ever channel surf the "news" channels and they all have the same story about the same time. I gave up on actual news in the early 90s. I had to sort thru actual world events for the commander while in the USAF. BS went in one stack and if someone or something got blowed up over night it went into another stack.

At one point CNN was news-ish, but now all news for pay is just sort of porny. Show me an ugly cable weather girl and I'll show you a heard of unicorns.

Back to the topic, we shouldn't be so closed as not to check to see what information is being put out. I can't stand Rush but I'll listen in every now and then. Even NPR makes me laugh when they start to believe their own perfect euphoria. But sometimes the messenger is correct. A big broblem with all news is the experts they get to decipher an incident. Any expert shouldn't be on CNN they should be at ground zero working the problem.

I thought the article refreshing considering that it was posted on CNN.

I particularly liked that the author noted.....multiple times......that gun control in her native country had its roots in government oppression of a citizenry.

I don't expect the article to be a complete game changer in the fight to defend the 2nd Amendment, but it is certainly one of a thousand cuts to the anti gun lobby.

Interesting article ,thank you for sharing.

I know that for every gun owner there is a different reason for owning a gun...And my reasons are no better than anyone else's.
I only own guns , because I can ... well that and the fact that I grew up around guns and have had fun with them.
I just don't view them like many folks in that article.
Sure I can protect myself with one ... But that is not the primary reason I own one
Defending against a unjust government? Yes ... But again not a big reason for me to have a gun.
Feeling a desire to own something that can also kill someone ?
Again not really part of my thinking...
As a kid , we owned guns more for the fun of it and the history behind them .. Guess that is still the biggest part of my thinking of why I own guns.

I would love to show her our collection of antique firearms and have her shoot a couple of them.
It would be nice for her to see , handle and shoot a part of history...
And to have her learn that guns also come in wood and steel , also that not every gun is a AR15 copy...
Nothing against those types of guns , just seemed like most of the pics in the article showed a gun like those types...
Andy
Yeah, show her your Martini Henry, assuming you own one.
LoL
I have a similar sentiment about guns, so I had to quote you.

Well she comes from a area where the "Guys with guns" can be seen as the bad guy ... so I would tread carefully with what I showed her and said.
But ....
Once at a show we were doing .... A family from India were looking at our collection...
One of the young men , really liked a pistol we have and was asking about it.
The pistol in question is a East Indian Trade pistol...
So while not showing the gal in the article a Martini Henry ... I have indeed done a similar action. :D

You guys brought up the 1871 Martini-Henry rifle. This made me think of one of my all time fave movies, Zulu, where the rifle was featured at the Battle of Roarke's Drift.
Officer: "Company!...Independent, fire at will."
Soldier: "Oh. Jolly nice of him!"

I went to Roark's Drift and Isandlwana once upon a time. Movie set is entirely different than the real RD. In the real mission station you could pitch rocks from the heights into the station, didn't need a gun, it was chillingly close. No matter what you feel about colonialism. What those men did there was one of the most daring defenses in history.

That is one of my favorite movies, probably watched it 50 times. I might even watch it today.
Was your first instinct to giggle to yourself about that, Andy?
I bet it was cool for them to hold a part of their history that they would otherwise only get to see behind glass in a museum. I know holding history always makes me feel much more connected than just staring through a glass wall.

They had me at Indian woman, I wanted to see what a furriner, at least originally thought of the NRA shebang. Nice to see she covered several different demographics of folks and left with a semi open mind.

After WWI the British ruling India didn't trust their Indian police with .303 SMLEs as they feared they might shoot their British officers...so they modified many to fire .410 shotgun style. A good friend of mine picked one up at a gun show a year or two ago.

I love the mechanics of firearms, and is why I like to build and work on vehicles.
I can therefore I own, but for protection why in the mix is not the top 3 as my life so far doesn't require that but have them just in case. Kinda like owning a boat , for fishing, recreation and well if there is a flood your good is my mind set.
