Just a heads up, PARC is hosting a free radio class this month. I think this is for Portland NET volunteers only. It's filling up but people often drop out, so joining the waitlist might be good.

January Amateur Radio Training - Eventbrite

WHAT: An opportunity to become fully trained and licensed as an Amateur Radio Technician (HAM radio). The Portland Amateur Radio Club (PARC) will provide the training in partnership with the Portland Bureau of Emergency Services (PBEM) and Portland Fire and Rescue (PF&R).

COST: The training itself is provided by PARC free of charge. The cost to receive your license from the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) is $15.

Forgot to add, remember to avoid using your home address when applying for a license. It will become public. Arrange a PO Box or other valid address ahead of time.
