Went in to the Fred Meyer OC last night. First time in a yr.
They had a pretty full gun counter.
Even AR's for what looked like 699
When did they go into the gun business again ?
Nice to see. The handgun prices looked pretty good from what I saw.

I use the geezer discount at FM when I remember. 10% off, first Tuesday every month, 55 or older. Saved a nice chunk of cash on a huge-*ss TV for my sweetheart last Christmas.

Just checked their website list of discount approved/non-approved merchandise, and I didn't see firearms or ammo in either category. Has anyone here tried the discount on gun related stuff?

That could really be "more bang for the buck!"

The long answer:

Fred Meyer never got fully out of the gun business. They stopped selling in the lower 48 for whatever reason, but continued to sell firearms, accessories and ammunition in Alaska. About 5 years ago FM did a pilot project at 5 "rural" stores, 3 in Oregon and 2 in Washington, installing gun counters. I think it was Newport, Warrenton and Newberg in Oregon. The pilot project was a success and they have since expanded the project. The Oregon City and Canby stores got "pro-counters" about a year ago. FWIW, I have found the lady who runs the counter in the OC Fred Meyer's to be extremely helpful and knowledgeable. I have had mixed interactions with other employees there, but never a bad interaction.

Couple years ago I had the Newberg FM order me an HK45. Turns out they could order anything except for Sig, and you can use your discount. Sometimes they have coupons for the home department that can be used as well.

A friend just bought a Ruger 556 from there last week.

Bought my LCP at Freddie's in Newberg about 4 years ago. They
even ordered me in a Savage FV-SR a couple of years ago, and
I got the geezer discount on that one. Heck--couple of months ago they
had Ruger 25 rd 22 mags for non-scalper prices, bought 2.

Their gun section is small, but with a fair variety. Prices are middle
of the road. I don't go out of my way to go there, but I drive
by the one in Newberg every Thursday doing deliveries and sometimes
stop in to see what's new.

Well, they don't have any guns nor ammo at any of the Vancouver area stores.

The one at Cornelius Pass in Hillsboro does as well.

That is a pretty impressive list of stores.
Still surprised.
Have to go back and see what they actually have, but the
prices I glanced at seemed pretty much norm to low.
Even more of a surprise.

Albany does to, though the older gentleman that works back there likes to disappear. Waiting to get my son a bow for over 20 minutes and he lost two sales for pistols with taking to long and ignoring us.
