I sent this to the Fred Meyer company this evening via email from their web site:

Your policy of support for the HSUS will prevent me from doing business with you for the foreseeable future. HSUS is an activist animal rights group that provides NO support to local humane societies. It is a political fund raising group dedicated to eradicating pet ownership, animal agriculture, and hunting and fishing. Perhaps in the spirit of support for their goals you should remove all meat, eggs, and other animal products from your stores.

You'll have to excuse my ignorance here, but what are you talking about? I see you've got some issues with the HSUS and apparently Fred Meyer supports them so please do tell what your beef is. Your email was pretty strongly worded, please enlighten us.

The Humane Society of the United States is almost nearly PETAs equal.
Due to their name, they tend to get a pass as folks consider them associated with local Humane Societies organizations. The fact is that they are seperate entities and donating to one does not fund the other.
These days it does not surprise me that a relationship like this exists.

Where did you find the connection? Is there an ad in the store?

Fred's carries Men's Room Original Red in almost pallet-size quantities. A portion of the net sale proceeds of MROR goes to support Fisher House.

So if you'd rather support your right to fish by boycotting Fred Meyer and not support families of injured soldiers, be my guest. I'm sure it's my priorities that are screwed up.

The HSUS is vert much anti-gun. This is way I do not support them.. As to Fishe Houser, Why not just write them a check. My wife will gladly tell youu how to get there.

Here here.....just had 2 bottles last night. Pretty good beer!

Thanks for the heads up Zeke. :s0155:

And Keystir and Sonic? You can buy a clue I'm sure, just don't do it at Fred Meyer's.
The HSUS is the biggest threat to the NW outdoors activities of hunting and fishing there is.
They are NOT the friend of gun owners either.

You can find almost any reason to boycott the bigger box stores. "Oh hey, let's not shop at Albertson's because they're affiliated with LDS."

And Jamie, jumping on Keystir is stupid (and at least consistent with you.) Dude asked why. Maybe he knows someone who works there (or does himself.) And maybe he genuinely didn't know what the issue was.

Well...I guess the answer is: Don't buy any of the PAWSitively Yours Diamond Jewelry Collection(TM).

I just got back from Freddy's with my loaf of Dave's Killer Bread and two boxes of 00 buck :) .

Possibly adding that information in the email would have provided a better point. Keep in mind that most employees don't keep up with the political agenda of the companies / products they sell. Informing them of the issues and conflicts would help them become informed. Something more than a blurb in a sentance. Just like in school, provide sources and good information.

Don't get me wrong here, I agree with your point; just not the short, incomplete, harsh letter you wrote them. Hopefully the employee that recieves it knows what you are talking about and doesn't think that you are nuttier than a squirrel turd.

At any rate, thank you for sharing this information. I would have never known.

Someone piss on your cheerios this morning? :s0164: You'll have to excuse me next time i'll just jump on the inflammatory bandwagon every time I see something pop up on the internet. I guess asking a question about an organization I've never heard of and a Jeweler I never shop at ( I do like Fred Meyer though) was just too much for your simple minded Glenn Beck fueled brain to comprehend.

The article on HSUS from ActivistCash.com is a little overblown. HSUS is an advocacy organization and doesn't claim to operate local pet shelters, any more than the NRA claims to operate your local rifle range. HSUS does fund several sanctuaries and wildlife centers though e.g. Cleveland Amory Black Beauty Ranch is a great one.

The local Humane Societies like Seattle Humane Society, Redmond Humane Society etc are independent and they operate the pet shelters and spay/neuter programs of course.

ActivistCash.com is run by CCF, a multi-million dollar corporate astroturfing group funded by Philip Morris, Arby's, Wendy's and Tyson Foods - defending your right to smoke and eat yourself to death since 1995.

Since ActivistCash loves to quotemine HSUS, here's a quote from Berman, the guy that runs CCF and ActivistCash.com:

"We always have a knife in our teeth," he said. Claiming that activists "drive consumer behavior on meat, alcohol, fat, sugar, tobacco and caffeine," his strategy is "to shoot the messenger... We've got to attack their credibility as spokespersons.

So you might want to take that article on HSUS with a grain of salt. And a big heaping plate of junk food, and finish it off with a smoke or two. Berman also likes pesticide, so please don't buy organic. :p

Then I'll address this to you and Sonic once again:

You both lose 10 points FOR NOT PAYING ATTENTION!
You've never heard of the HSUS??? Shame on you! How dare you accuse me of being simple minded, when you claim to never have heard of them.

What, do you live in some kind of academic vacuum?

I don't listen to Glenn Beck, and I don't have cable television so I can't watch Glenn Beck,...
There goes that argument Keystir.

Like I said before, the HSUS is the greatest threat to outdoor sportsmen that enjoy hunting and fishing, that there is. Their anti gun agenda includes ammo bans, and the complete elimination of hunting.

Two more prime examples of how little you leftists know, while you preach your superiority.
Like I said, buy a clue. IOW, EDUCATE YOURSELF!

I like the idea of educating yourself, I would propose you try basic reading and comprehension skills as these would have helped you prior to digging yourself into a hole with your tirade. You screwed up and launched yourself into an attempted flame session without actually reading the posts prior to your rant. Listen, I understand you don't want to lose face on an internet forum and admit you went a bit far in your original post and that's fine, but your making yourself look foolish. Just chalk this up to a learning experience, chill out and move on.

Seriously? About half of the posts I have seen out of you makes some rediculous statement regarding Glen Beck. I don't agree with everything the guys says, but he was the ONLY person in the media who exposed jackass socialists/communists like Van Jones, that our dictator had planted in his administration. Because of Beck bringing some of the people to light, the administration had to get rid of them, making our country slightly better off.

You seem to be filled with hate towards anything or anyone that has a conservative viewpoint, and can't seem to post without some kind of inflamatory comment. Perhaps it is you who needs to "chill out and move on".

I talk about Glenn Beck because 1/2 the psycho, right wing, nut job comments that have little or nothing to do with the 2nd amendment I see on here come nearly word for word from his shows. Granted as far as I know Glenn Beck hasn't jumped on the HSUS is really running the country diatribe yet so you've got me there. All that I did was ask a question regarding a highly inflammatory, incendiary comment that provided absolutely no evidence or context. Your buddy didn't take the time to apparently actually read my question and started in with the personal attacks and also inserted his own inflammatory comment about HSUS. I enjoy this forum and enjoy talking about firearms and 2nd amendment issues but all to often it starts to veer off into crazy right wing psycho talk. When I see that happening I merely point out the fallacies in their arguments, that is all. When people start attacking me for no reason other than to advance their crazy right wing agendas I will respond.

I actually don't know the other guy. I have no problem with you defending yourself from a percieved attacker.

I guess I just get tired of hearing people throwing all conservatives into a "simple minded Glen Beck" crowd. Maybe I took this wrong, it just seems like I have seen quite a bit of that kind of comment from you a good few times. Then again, maybe I am just in a bad mood. My cheerios tasted a bit salty this morning come to think of it. LOL.
