I was at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC last week, and they have a section called "Arms & Armor". It shows personal arms and armor from way back up to about the 1800's. Most of the stuff in there is because it is so well customized rather than historical signifigance. You can't do flash photography, and I only had my cell phone for pic's, so the quality doesn't do them justice, but I thought I would share:
