I've tried drying the seeds but no luck. Any recommendations for preparing sunflower seeds would be appreciated.

Don't grow them in shady areas, they stay small. FULL SUN AM to PM

Good advice. This one is in about 75% sun because I have reserved my best sunny areas for my peppers and tomatoes. This one is currently about 4-5 feet tall. It is awesome to see them grow HUGE though. The one next to my mail box is getting full sun and will probably get Godzilla size. They're fun flowers to watch grow.

They are fun to grow but I've never dried them. I grow them for the birds and eye candy.
