Metolius fish are just hard to land, they're heavily targeted year round and have been for the better part of the century. Those trout have tricks! I had to pry a brown out from the undercut, it was like 3' back there.
Ultra light is a lot of fun, but it's not always fair to the fish. Just avoid trying to land bulls on your 3wt.
