Sorry but I simply cannot agree with this statement. Yes our government has done some wrong doings but what you are suggesting is extreme. I am neither naive or ill adversed in history. I believe that this is Obama trying to appease the antis by acting like he is "making progress" without actually doing anything. As it stands reason is finally overcoming fear in our nation and he would not be able to actually implement any changes at this time. This is a political agenda to shift focus on other problems our country is facing. Do you really think that with the economy in shambles and the unemployment rate skyrocketing that gun control is really on the presidents "to do" list? I am not suggesting giving up any of the freedoms we have but ultimately the voters will decide. Do you not remember how the patriot act was implemented? It played on the fears of our citizens to give up some of our rights to keep us safe. As the polls have shown this is not the case with "gun control" and our nation has other more pressing issues to worry about. And let's not forget who signed the patriot act, George W. Bush and Obama has since kept the ball in motion. You simply cannot compare our nation to that of Hitlers WWII regime and obamas socialistic views. If you are serious I suggest that you read a few more history books sir. While I am not saying it is impossible, I am saying that it is highly improbable, and that we are a nation of free people and I am sure that you and every other citizen of this country wishes to keep it this way.

I sure hope you are right. That Obama could simply be trying to appease the antis is indeed possible, but given his administration's clear-cut stand on gun rights, I have my doubts (please remember that Holder and other officials in this administration - all hand-picked by Obama no-less - submitted supreme court briefs in the Heller case claiming the second amendment did not guarantee an individual right).

As far as comparing the U.S. to the Nazi's, I was not making that comparison at all. I first mentioned Hitler's regime as an extreme example of how government's in the past have manipulated, abused and lied to people. Then I gave some examples to show that our own government hasn't always been lilly-white in this regard either. I absolutely love this country and I feel we are the most decent and benevolent country in the history of the world, but even our own government has adopted less-than-savory policies from time-to-time. All this proves is that even a great country like ours can do the wrong thing at certain times. This country was founded on the most noblest of principles, but our forefathers realized in no uncertain terms that government can become corrupt, and this is precisely one of the reasons we have the second amendment to the constitution!

And I make no distinctions between Democrat or Republican, nor distinction between one president or another. By referring to 'government', I was trying to be completely bi-partisan. Frankly, I distrust most politicians - Democrat and Republican alike! Far too many are lawyers, bankers or corporate executives with access to vast sums of money for their multi-million dollar campaigns. I'd sure like to see a lot more everyday folks representing us in congress!

Anyway, I do admire your seeming faith in government. I sincerely hope your faith is justified in this case.
