Rummaging around today and ran across the fire piston I bought a few years ago. Handy gadget to keep on hand. Not hard to use, kinda fun actually.

Mine is the TERA-Light II in black from Wilderness Solutions. Comes with char cloth, extra o-ring, and a magnesium rod and steel striker as an alternate fire starting method.

They have other styles, also. And I've seen YT vids for DIY.

Wondering if anyone else has/uses a fire piston.

What do you have? Have you tried many different types of tinder? I've tried shredded cedar bark with some success. I need to get out and see what I can find in the area that would work.

The company is campfire piston. I just ordered it off amazon. I really like to use jute. It comes apart very easy and makes a great nest. We do all kinds of primitive fire making demonstrations with different methods of making fire. I hate bow drills, dam hard to make fire for me. flint and steel is also fun
