Fire Marshal seeks public's assistance identifying persons, vehicle of interest in Nakia Creek fire

The Clark County Fire Marshal's Office is asking for the public's help in identifying persons and a vehicle of interest in an ongoing fire investigation.

The Fire Marshal's office is asking the public to review the video and photo below to see if they recognize the people or vehicle. The video was taken Sunday, Oct. 9 at approximately 3:30 pm on a ridge near where the Nakia Creek fire is burning on Larch Mountain.

"We are looking for what we believe is a white or light-colored Subaru vehicle," said Assistant Fire Marshal Curtis Eavenson. "Based on witness statements, we also believe there were two men and two women connected with this vehicle."

If anyone recognizes the vehicle or people depicted in the video or has any information regarding the ongoing wildfire investigation, they are urged to contact the county's Fire Marshal Office at (564) 397-3320.

From the perspective of the photo, it looks like the fire is up near the high road, and just down the side. From where they are parked it seems they would likely be shooting downhill towards that log blocking the spur road. Seems to me to be kind of odd throwing a round up the hill towards the road. But then again, some people do odd things.

Also, who ever blocked off that spur road with a log, at that distance from a place to park, should be shot! It encourages people to shoot there because it looks like it's supposed to be a backstop for shooting. Lots of people don't know that shooting into downed logs, stumps and trees can start fires.

This could very well be where the fire started. Whether it was from those people shooting, a vehicle passing by that threw out a burning cigarette, or some other cause, is yet to be determined.

They had to have seen it! Wouldn't you call it in, grab your fire extinguisher & shovel and try to put it out? Why would you stay, keep shooting, then leave and not say anything? What is wrong with people?!!!

Or maybe they tried? If so, the fire marshal would have their info and know what happened.
