This has been on the to-do list for the last 5 years and it's finally happening!

Bought some rock (the kid thinks it's a mountain.)

Dug some holes....and I'm ready for a beer or 4.

Filled them back up with rock and laid the foundation blocks.

Cut the 4x4s and started on the beams.

That bloody hose bib is a bit closer than I'd like. I'll have to move it up a bit.

And now it's starting to look like something! Time for another Home Depot run. Y'all seen the price of wood lately? I seriously chose the wrong time to do this....

What decking are you going to use?

I have my largest deck on the north. It is all wood. Moss grows on it. The wood decays. That side of the land slopes down away from the house. There is probably also fill there. It is settling and the deck is starting to slope/settle too.

Just pine 2x4s. Out here moss and rot are foreign concepts. I'll hit them with a couple coats of deck stain/sealer and they'll last decades. The holes I dug go down the the rock floor and back filled with compacted driveway rock so it shouldn't sag much at all.
We have outbuildings built with untreated 2x4s on the property that were made in the 60s. They're still holding strong and stood up to 4ft of snow.
