I have two ar15's, one with a pistol length gas system and one with a rifle length and haven't been able to find a powder to make both work reliably with one single load until today. H4895 and Varget were too slow for the pistol and IMR4198 was too fast for the rifle. I stumbled upon a pound of BLC-2 and loaded up about 50 out of my 10k 62gr bulk bullet buy. Bam, both functioned with 100% reliability. Now to get busy and fill up a few thousand cases!

IMR 3031 and Win 748 :p

So a capable friend tried 4 of my different .223 loads; he did not know which load he was shooting out of two different ARs. We tested Win 748, H335, H322, and IMR 3031.

His best groups @ 100 yards with 62g FMJ was.....the IMR 3031.

I'm partial to 25.5 grains of Win 748 in the 62 grain because it meters better than the 3031.

What others did you try besides the 3 that didn't work.

Did you stop at BLC?
How many grs of it worked ?

Unfortunately I went on a bit of a recommendation and bought an 8lb jug of the 4198. So I guess I'm set for the pistol for a while until I burn it all up. As far as how many grains of BLC-2, 23gr functioned at 100% as well as locked the bolt open on empty mag with both.

That's good to hear because I traded for 2 pounds of IMR 3031 and have made some test loads but have not been able to tell which ones are best. Through my red dot I see 3 different dots....:eek::eek:
How many grains of 3031 was used wit gets the 62 grain bullets?

IMR 3031, 23.0g, and the 62 grain with H335 experiment was 25.0G. Darn if I can find my notes on the H322 with 62 grain.

I also like the .223; 55 grain & IMR 3031 combo; 25.0grains "C".

We also found that the H322 powder that shoots 55grain FMJ the best out of an MVP Patrol is 23.0 grains; 1" @ 100 yards.

Looking at my stack of .223 notes; 55 grain FMJ, with IMR 4895 25.0g "C", has a "very good for AR" written next to it.
