Voluntary for now:
The bill, proposed by Senators Richard Burr (R-NC) and Dianne Feinstein (D-CA), would allow internet giants and other companies to share people's personal information with the US government so it can be analyzed for signs of lawbreaking – be it computer related or not.

In return, the companies would get legal immunity from angry customers, although legal action is unlikely because the businesses and the government don't have to reveal what they have shared, even with a freedom of information request. So why do I think the voluntary bit has an expiration date? Because the bill's sponsors say what they expect "good" corporate behavior to be:
Feinstein said organizations won't be forced to reveal citizens' private lives to Uncle Sam: it won't be mandatory for businesses to hand over people's private records, she claimed.

"If you don't like the bill, you don't have to do it," Feinstein said.
"So it's hard for me to understand why we have companies like Apple and Google and Microsoft and others saying they can't support the bill at this time. You have no reason, because you don't have to do anything, but there are companies by the hundreds if not thousands that want to participate in this."

Her colleague Burr said on the floor that he couldn't understand the opposition to CISA. Businesses against the new law will put their users at risk, he said, because by not sharing people's personal information, they will not be given intelligence and heads up on attacks from the Feds.

"When the companies who are against this get hacked, they are going to be begging to cooperate with the federal government," he opined. So be a good businessman and join the Electronic Stasi.

Wow, wtf?! Big brother at his best strong-arming ppl to rat out their neighbors. I am saddened and pissed that this is a bi-partisan effort, but not too suprised anymore. Republicans talk a good game, but these days it seems all talk.

And we inch even further toward the day where the citizens will have to choose - the reset button or fully accepting the bonds of communist control and the death of the United States of America as it was founded.

These mentally deranged hacks are relentless. It kind of reminds me of Revelation 12:12....they know their time is short and want to cause as much destruction as they can with the time they have left.

power corrupts, and our founders knew it - we know it. Or as Reagan put it inaugurally:
Government is not the solution to our problem; government is the problem.

Police state here we come...can't even believe these knuckleheads think this is acceptable.
Feinstein is the biggest piece of bubblegum. Can someone stick her in a retirement home already.

To everything, churn, churn, churn!
Internet service providers already audit our surfing to target ads at us.

All internet traffic is already funneled through server farms with cameras inside the cabinets
to capture video of anyone who might poke into one. Invisible three letter agency.

I like this part:

"If you don't like the bill, you don't have to do it," Feinstein said.
"So it's hard for me to understand why we have companies like Apple and Google and Microsoft and others saying they can't support the bill at this time. You have no reason, because you don't have to do anything, but there are companies by the hundreds if not thousands that want to participate in this."

The can't support should read 'won't support' for several of those companies because they feel it is wrong. I'm sure technically speaking they could, but a few of them have come out strongly against such bills.

As for those hundreds and thousands of companies that want to participate, could I please get a list of those so I don't do business with them ever again.

And what the hell is wrong with this person's head space. So much for her being a liberal and all about freedoms (well except for the 2nd amendment.) Screw that.
