A 20-24oz framing hammer with a long fiberglass handle is a single blow lethal weapon you can slam the head right through a sheet of good 1/2" plywood.they would do a skull just like a watermellon.

Splitting maul would be aweful heavy to swing around much. But I do have a nice hand forged tomahawk and know how to throw it very well. A nice compromise might be a good Boys Axe light long but not to long of handle and easy to swing with one hand. But again a 20OZ Fiberglass handle straight claw framing hammer is a mighty weapon when used with enthusiasm.
