It seems like, ever since we went to war in Iraq and Afghanistan, there has been a huge rise in popularity of guns and accessories in FDE (flat dark earth) or tan. Anybody else notice this? Personally, I think the color is ugly. I understand it blends in more in the desert, great, if you're in the desert, fighting. Everybody has a right to what they like, and I'm not saying you shouldn't paint your guns tan, but I would like to know why so many do? If we were fighting in the woods somewhere, would OD be the big thing?

Just wondering...

I had an AR pistol in FDE it looked pretty good, but now I have 4 ARs, all black, and my Rem 700 in OD.
If I lived in Bend of Southern/eastern OR I might change some things up, but i'm not painting anything.

Nothing wrong with FDE :D I just like a little color in my rifle..... Black gets boring after a while....

Black rifles are evil!!! Don't you guys know anything!!!! :D If we would all just paint our rifles like the hello kitty AR (notice I didn't put that picture here:eek:) the anti's would leave us alone!:) Okay, just kidding, couldn't help myself. Black Rifles Matter!

Prefer gray and od or other earthy tones over fde. Gray/green/brown tones will blend almost anywhere. Black blends in shadow if its matte. I have more black guns than any but if I paint a gun its a combo of od/brown and gray. I take cues from my local environment. I am not an operator so I don't need an fde gun ;)

Go to auto zone and buy the little cans spray paint in various colors and put them in you go bag .

And then your covered, as you travel and go threw the season's.

LMAO

I strongly prefer FDE. My rationale is that black is too high-contrast, OD and Foliage are just way more militant or woodsy than i am, and Coyote is just a bit more saturated than i'd like. FDE—although it has its Marines association—is less remarkable, more neutral, and it goes with everything. If Stealth Gray or some kind of brown catches on, i might switch my preference.

for me the FDE is just something different, not necessarily better. In a safe full of black guns...the FDE helps give it a little flavor. it has nothing to do with being an operator or camouflage.
