FBI Director Vows More Use of ‘Lone Wolf' Provision of Patriot Act
Citizens With No Ties to Terror Groups Present 'Serious National Security Threat'

Testifying yesterday in Congress, FBI Director Robert Mueller and National Counterterrorism Center director Matthew Olsen both agreed that the seldom used "lone wolf" provision of the USA PATRIOT Act, a provision which allows broad intelligence gathering of people with no actual terrorism ties, would become much more widely used in the months and years to come.

Indeed, while Mueller claimed the FBI had never once used the "lone wolf" provision, but that US citizens with no actually ties to terror groups pose a "serious national security threat" and would need to be targeted more.

Olsen concurred with this sentiment, adding that such people are "probably the greatest challenge that we face." The two also agreed that Congress needs to give them even more broad surveillance powers, citing the popularity of Android-based smartphones.

The FBI's surveillance of Americans remains a serious issue, though the widespread classification of government records means the true extent of the policy may never be known. Thus while Mueller assures that no one has ever been targeted as a "lone wolf," they continue to target American citizens for lawful activities.

Kind of puts me in remembrance of what J. Egar and the Boys used to do, back in the 60s. Of course, then it was a lot more gum-shoe style stuff, now it will be much easier....

One of those two edged sword things. Everybody will be happy if we prevent another Oklahoma City, but not if it is because of another Waco/Ruby Ridge type of fiasco.

Recall that anyone that buys waterproof matches, flashlight, waterproof cans and pays with cash is now a Potential Domestic Terrorist so every fisherman is liable to be on a "shoot list"
AND the FBI can conduct operations against us without even opening a file, no nasty trail of inconvienient evidence

I'm just waiting for the NSA to say "Gun owners are a danger to this country. Turn over your weapons in the name of national security!". And I'm betting my bottom dollar that most "Sheep" will do just that. Just like that whole "Pat Downs" and all that.

It doesn't take much, here's a quote out of Canadian news regarding a strike by their customs and border agents . . . basically gun parts are now in the same class as child porn and drugs.

Mail suspected of containing drugs, child porn goes unchecked: Customs workers | Canada | News | Ottawa Sun

TORONTO - Some international mail and parcels suspected of containing drugs, child porn or even parts for weapons are being allowed into Canada without checks by border officers due to a lack of staff, customs workers say

Anyone that thinks their second amendment rights are "safe" just need to look north (or to California) to see how bad it can get.
