For me the 1911 of course. I have over decades had a couple re worked 1917's. Never really wanted one, ever time I had one it was some deal too good to pass and only to have until sold again. Never been big on wheel guns but these were fun to play with though. I often kind of wish I had kept one just for the history of it.

I like the Tokarev, for their reliability, accurate, smooth shooting and a powerful cartridge that makes this my favorite WW2 pistol. I think of it as the pistol that thinks it's a rifle

The Tokarev was still around during Vietnam. I brought one home and fired it a bit but it simply didn't fit my hand during point shooting so I let it go. It is not one I miss.

It probably won't win the award for ergonomics but I don't have large hands and it fits, feels and points well for me. On the side note, Not too many handguns out there that can defeat Kevlar vests or steel military helmets of WW2 era

Yep, the FMJ did have a great deal ability to go through things. I'm pretty sure it would have punched holes in some of the current metal targets used in the Steel Plate matches.

A few pics for now, still don't have any of the Inglis Hi Powers. Just picked up two more today, a 1916 Erfurt Luger and a 1945 French produced svw code P-38.

What a question!! So many cool guns. Almost anything used in ww2 is on my list. The don't want list is shorter. No Spanish guns, or nambu's. The hipower, 1911's, p38, are on the top of my got to have list. Following that are The p08, mauser hsc, and any revolver in use at that time. There are more, just haven't thought of them yet.

I don't know which family member ended up with my Grandpas service pistol, but they aren't talking. I wish I had it as I'm sure it could tell some cool stories.

That is a great collection you have there. You should be proud. :s0155:

As to the whereabouts of the 1911? [I assume a 1911]

Well it's probably in some collection. Maybe mine?
I've bought many guns from family members that held little regard for there family history. Just the money they could get from an old gun. :s0002:

1911 GI
Star Model B
Tokarev
Browning 1922
Browning Hi-Power
Walther PP
Walther P38
Webley Mark VI in .455
CZ38
S&W 1917
Webley Self-Loading Pistol
Frommer Stop
Dreyse 1907

These came to mind off the top of my head.
Lot of cool guns made then and I'm sure I missed a few as well.

I found a Beretta M1934 yesterday at a local pawn shop. Unfortunately the serial number put it as manufactured between 1954-1967 so sadly it remains without a home.

If I had to pick the handguns I thought were best from WWII, they would be the following:
1911/1911a1
Browning Hi Power
Walther P38
Tokarev
Radom
S&W and Colt Revolvers (1917's, .38's, etc)
Webleys (preferably in .455. Even though the standard UK Handgun caliber was an anemic .38, there were still a lot of the older .455's around).
I'll include my personal collection of WWI/WWII handguns: 2013-04-03 15-20-13_0026a.jpg 2017-01-10 13-02-22_0024A.jpg 2012-04-03 12-59-20_0037aaa a.jpg
