Which time...?
I've taken two bears with my Hawken.....:D

A .530 round ball pushed by 80 grains of 2F did the trick both times.
Muzzleloaders are like any other gun....find a load that works well....practice with it....and shot placement.

The first bear was a wounded bear ( not by me ) ....who ran into to mess of blackberries...
We got around to him...and the fellow who shot him and wounded him....couldn't / wouldn't shoot...
I shot the bear....range about 30 odd yards.
Never went hunting with that guy again.

The next bear was going up a hill side...about 75 yards away from me...
I had a good clear shot...and hit him....the bear spun around bit at the wound....then rolled down the hill....
I re-loaded and walked up to a dead bear.

Both bears were in the neighborhood of 200-225 pounds

Ithaca model 37. I've taken my personal one out on more walks to get game than any other firearm I own.

It's responsible for my first pheasant, first deer and first hog. Love this gun (pic isn't mine but an extremely similar one)
