Hey pallies. So, on occasion, I, most often we, enjoy playing at the local casino. I don't go often or play high stakes, but when doing so it is fun. I remember a Skype conversation with Joe, owner of this site, about some fun he had gambling in Vegas. And this past weekend, my father talked about how he's played Baccarat down in Buenos Aires whilst visiting familia down that way.

My game? Blackjack. When engaging my "machine mind", and by that I mean mathematic precision and memory skills, I can do very well at said table, and I leave ahead, and give small tip to the dealer. (To the point pit bosses have taken notice; gave me dirty looks, but didn't boot me out.) I've had mixed results with "grinding" at the Roulette table, though it is fun in its own way. Never had any interest in Slots; boring and the odds suck donkey rump.

My wife's game is Five Card Poker and she, generally, leaves ahead. Brother number two in our family is an avid Poker player, though I haven't played cards with him since childhood, and have no idea how he does, but he's sharp. As mentioned previously, my father's game was Baccarat, but he freely admitted he didn't do well at said back in the day.

How about you? Have a favorite and how does it work out?

I enjoy playing 5 card draw , Blackjack and yes slots for just mindless fun....
Vote went to Poker....5 card draw

Played a lot of poker while in the Army....and every once in a blue moon , when I feel like throwing away a $20.00 I may head down to the casino...its fun to play and the times I do win....I usually spend it on books or ammo.

Voted for poker here as well, but don't play at casinos. Not a fan of casinos outside of Nevada and prefer home games with friends & neighbors vs casino players.

Blackjack or in Vegas "The Green Machine" , each casino often only has one and they move them around. So when I find one I make it a game of playing. $20 in fhe machine jumps the win rate to 85%. About $40-$100 pay out, frequently. So Im a fan. Yeah I lose every now and then but Im not a big gambler, I just like having fun.. when I lose I simply walk away since I like buying firearms and movies far more than losing money.

Craps, it's the best odds in the house. Of course the House always wins even if you're James Bond.
If you gamble infrequently and win, walk away ahead and let the House make its cut on somebody else.

But I don't gamble anymore. These days my fun money seems to go to other stuff.

Funny story; last summer my beloved family was away in eastern Oregon, I was working hours that were pure hell, and on lark I took a day off at the casino. On pure luck, I kept winning at the roulette table. With some of the winnings I bought my wife a belly jewel ... in the form of a roulette wheel. The big win was returning to Jacuzzi tub. :s0112:

Funny story, I was playing blackjack with my son in Reno the other night (about 3 in the morning) and a guy pulls up a chair next to us. We start talking and he's from Oregon city (about 4 miles from where my son lives). Small world we live in... :D

I voted, "other". The only reason I go are for the buffets, and seeing a decent show on stage. ;)

After last weekend in Reno, I hate buffets!!!!! I ate too dang much!! When they say "all you can eat", I take that as a challenge...:p I even tried an all you can eat sushi buffet:

This was only just an appetizer...:D

Another funny story from the casino .... so I won a bit at Blackjack, I'm joyful because I made a little money for my family by being wacky, but I'm waiting in line to cash in my chips. Directly in front of me are two short Mexican-American guys who, from their attire and bearing, are probably upper middle class, successful farmers, and maybe brothers. In front of them is thin, scarred, tattooed, and hot (albeit in a crazy way) young, platinum blond. Oh, she was a dish, but that muchacha had been around the block and then some. Anyway, I wasn't really paying attention much even though I heard the word "mujer" (woman in Spanish) repeatedly; I was taking care of things on my phone, eyeing the craps table which had a brunette rolling there, then a friend of mine who tends bar at the establishment talked to me. All of a sudden, platinum blond spins around, and says "You ... you two are talking about me!" The two farmers are flabbergasted and deny any such discussion. A tense stand off is broken by my maniacal laughter (finally clicked they were taking about her); blond looks at me with suspicion, two Mexican-American dudes have the look of relief at my guttural interjection. We all then cashed in our chips and went on our way. :s0112:

I voted other, gambling isn't for me. I walk through the casinos on cruise ships; a few times I've blown a roll of quarters on the coin-pushing machines which are a known rigged amusement. Every night, they move the good stuff a few ranks back. Pokey machines ("slot" machines) are a dead loss. With the advent of electronic gaming machines, I don't trust anything about them. There are too many things that can be tweaked; most machines have multiple lines going on them now that increase odds. I don't have the skill or nerve to play table games. I'm way too risk averse to put money in play on gambling. Plus, I'm not a good loser. Ask my wife, we play Skip-bo or Five Crowns. I'm not always gracious in defeat.

I'm a blackjack and craps guy. I'll watch the players at the BJ tables to see what their skill level is before I sit down. If I don't like what I see I'll go throw dice for a while.

I've worked at and around Tribal Casinos since I escaped the Corporate life of Silicon Valley in 2002.

Due to the level of my position, I've never been allowed to "Game" as they call it in the industry at my place of employment.

I DO, however, enjoy Black Jack when visiting other Casinos. My Dad was quite good at it, and taught me the game when I was like 8 years old.

I've even dealt at non cash company parties and other events as a side gig. Used to make around $20 per hour doing it, and always used the $ to find this hobby .

Last Christmas, I walked in the house with a new to me Colt AR. When the wife asked where the money for it came from, I honestly said "the Black Jack tables"

Grew up around casinos. Therefore I learned through watching people lose everything, that gambling isn't a good thing.

My dad worked for IGT for a really long time as well so he knew the ins and outs of some of the machines.

Nowadays with connectivity the way it is, casinos are allowed to have entire sections of machines interconnected to the systems payout odds. IE it used to be each machine had to pay out so much to how much it took in. Now if a whole section hasn't taken in a certain dollar amount that section of say up to 100 machines, won't be paying out much.

The algorithms have gotten way worse, highly in the favor of the casino.

If you are to play anything stick to card or table games. Learn how to play craps and bet against the roller. That's the only game in the casino that still has decent odds of winning. Try to find low deck count card games. Like single deck blackjack. Again, just better odds.

My best advice to any new person wanting to give it "a go". Get a $100 bill. Go find a $20 slot machine. Insert your $100 and pull it five times. If you win, leave immediately, if you lose everything, consider yourself educated.

As for the post about the all you can eat sushi in Reno. Do a google search on Nevada sushi, most of the time, it isn't the fish they say it is.

I don't like casinos. Most of them smell like a dirty ash tray. If I am going to gamble it won't be at a casino.
