In regards to facial recognition I am somewhat on the fence cause the cats already out of the bag so to speak, once the technology exist it's hard to stifle, think of DNA technology and where it is today.
So I look forward to a discussion.

I think that Intelligent AI can't be stopped even though several leaders in Tech say if it's left unchecked it could be dangerous.
Watch some of Elon Musk's conversations on the subject if you'd like more info on this.

I believe that private sector use of facial recognition is going to be more pervasive and have less oversight than governmental use.

If you want a relevant application, look at some stories on how the casino industry uses it to prevent theft (patron to patron) and blackball card counters (not illegal). But it also tracks players, and when combined with the "Frequent Flyer" cards, they have a large set of information about where you go and what you do and your proclivities..

They (casinos) don't have to answer to anyone on how they use that data.

...EXCEPT a computer monitor neither can forgive you for your sins, nor does a computer determine what things are sins.

...But these days, many DO step up to the nearest monitor to commit sins (things that wage war against the soul).

As someone who has a doppleganger or two here in town, makes me wonder.
I had one person get very angry because I didn't agree we were best friends in high school, (wrong name, school and graduation year).
An attractive gal swore i was blowing her off acting like I didn't know her, after being my bartender (and more) for years, even calling out what and where I drank (both wrong, haven't drank alcohol in years), too bad.
Maybe AI is better?

Well, at least you weren't that other guy, who would have claimed to suffer amnesia from a head injury, milked the sympathy and tried to get a shag out of it.

Speaking from personal use. I used the BAT/HIIDE system in Afghan and lemme tell ya. these things were hit or miss on facial recognition, had to scan the same person multiple times before the system would register and then another time to confirm and it would mis-match the info. Up until you would confirm with biometrics via finger scan but thats a whole nother system when they got gnarled fingers. Used to tell the LT alright sir smoke'em if ya got'em were gonna be here a minute course that never went well since ya know gotta meet the needs of the Army etc.

Super finicky too. Gotta have it lined up just right etc etc. Its meant more for a static stationary set up than a field mobile. So I am guessing it might be about the same for public sector and being hit or miss or as unreliable until they can actually sit you down and go over it. Eventually we got to the point of just giving up on the system entirely and did the old check ID's or take names and make profiles which was exponentially faster and more reliable.

Nice facial recognition system ya got there, would be a shame if someone wore a hat or bandana or halloween mask to counter it.
