For a long time, I have wondered why this is the case. Can it be that there is a connection between writing/understanding code and being anti-gun? Such a connection can't be absolute, because we have plenty of pro-gun members here that write/understand code.

When I used to live a life of tech before giving it up I was surrounded by some of the best in the industry from security specialists to network architecture wizards. I think if I could get 20 of us in one spot we'd have enough hardware to take over a small or moderately sized country. It's not the code-monkeys, it's the bosses. It's not a "company" that's anti-2A, it's the head of the snake.

I heard today (Fox tv w Hillary security context action) that the DOD is hacked ten million times a day.

Someone finally caught what I was trying to point out. Not necessarily the "tracking", more in sense of who it benefits from the redirect "in" the tracking. Then again, I don't blindly click any links.

From the screen shot of the email it looks like they're pushing one alternative for FB & I'd say they're paying for clicks & whoever sent the email (original sender if it's forwarded) is getting paid.

As far as I know this is true. I "cancelled" mine but it's still on their servers & gives the option to sign in and reopen the account at any time. Permanently archived.
They keep some things like messages but your name or username isn't attached to them. Here's how to permanently dump your account. I did it years ago and just recently a long lost childhood friend's Facebook account showed up in a search. Had to go through the sign up process again to log in and after I contacted him I promptly deleted the account. Again. :)
After going through the steps it takes 14 days for your account to be closed. Don't login during that 14 days!

I got an email from Bud's Gun Shop yesterday advertising "A Social App for the outdoor enthusiast!" called 4R (Rods, Rifles, Rest and Relaxation) that looks like it is an attempt to create a pro-gun social media community. I am pretty anti-Facebook and don't plan on downloading this new app either but it could be an alternative for those who are into social media.

I tried f*ckbook for a few months. What a waste of time, not to mention the incomprehensible user interface. I'm done with it, and my life has improved measurably.

Forums like this one have been around long before Facebook, anyone can make one (and many have), and they are really great for what they do and you don't have to have a bunch of yahoos in the mix who don't have any interest in firearms. I am a programmer and a competitive shooter. I can tell you that it isn't the programmers who make policy. Facebook is a business and it is going to do what it does to make money and it doesn't care about how much any of us like our guns. Guns isn't what they do. I've created my own company so I can compete with other shooters online and it is going to have a social element on it's website where shooters can meet and compete with one another. It is competitive shooting specific, supported by sponsorships from companies that are competitive shooting specific, and all the data we collect goes toward helping competitive shooting sports. Data tracking isn't all nefarious. The good guys can use this stuff too... so, we gotta build this stuff ourselves. Build the community. We can build everything Facebook does and more. We can use the same technology they do and use it to our benefit.

What is there to complain about? It's a private sight with it's own rules, right?
Isn't that what most told me when I ranted about the "T" word?
Start your own "GunBook" and give me the royalties for the name.
Seriously.Face book was for kids, then their parents took it over. I haven't been on that stupid place for ever.
All you need is a 15yo smarter than you to build the sight. Then find a browser that won't shut you down
bubblegum facebook:D

So I went to my fracking FB page and stated how I feel about FB shutting down legitimate and legal pages. I then declared I had guns and I might sell them. Please shut my FB page, please!

I was part of a Oregon Buy/Sell/Trade group in Facebook and just a couple days after them posting that it might get closed down, it no longer shows up anywhere, as if it never even existed.

I got on it some years ago to get in touch with some friends and extended family that I hadn't seen or talked to for years. It didn't take long to remind me exactly why I hadn't talked to those people for years.

I have a FB acc't, I use it for photo storage- have exactly zero "friends". all privacy settings full on- no one can see anything except the bare necessities. Like my so-called Cover Photo, should someone trip into it:
