Taking away gun rights is already the poster child for the progreSSives. While rational people can align with the viewpoints of the author, the progreSSives are not rational and are very vocal about how they can not be reasoned with.

The progressives have tunnel vision and don't look at reality. They actually believe that if they make guns illegal to own, they will magically disappear from society.
Just like prohibition banning alcohol made it disappear.
Just like outlawing pot, crack and heroin made it disappear.
Just like outlawing gambling put all the bookies out of business.
What actually happened is organized crime took over and made billions of dollars supplying the public with these things. They did not magically disappear.
The government finally caved in and legalized alcohol, pot and gambling so they could tax it. Since they could not beat organized crime the politicians decided to get in on the action an take their cut in the form of taxes. Politicians only care about two things, Power and Money.
