Well, that is one way to arm the people. Of course the government prefers this way because they remain in charge.

Having more people in the reserve won't be stopping any rapes though - or any Paris massacres for that matter! You need a pistol in a purse (for example) to take care of individual attacks.

The article is from 2015 and they sure haven't learned much. You have to understand that the mentality in Europe is much more as a subject and not a free citizen. There is much more expectation and dependency on the government providing, protecting and taking care of you.

And don't get me wrong. There is most certainly a population of freedom and self reliance minded people in Europe. I suspect this group finds the current environment positively maddening. They recognize that they are essentially sitting ducks and that disarmament has been a total and complete failure. This gets punctuated to them over and over with each new Aloha Snackbar event. But unfortunately, this group is in the minority. They are severely outnumbered. And it's HIGHLY unlikely that anything will ever change.

As a side note, there is some hope. I believe the Czech Republic is actually trying to loosen gun restrictions and shut down the inflow of immigrants. Kudos to them! But you just gotta scratch your head at most the rest of Europe. For countries that were absolutely decimated by Hitler, you wouldn't think that they would ever stand for being disarmed. Some people don't learn tough.

Peace...through superior firepower. :)

The Europeans got off lucky. They got to blame Hitler. Nazism was movement headed by Hitler but many if not most of the people in Germany, Czechoslovakia , Austria , Ukraine and most of the other axis countries including the Baltic states and even France were enthusiastic Nazi supporters or party members. It wasnt Hitler disarming or decimating them. They were Hitler.

Modern Europeans have embraced full Democracy and as we know most people are happy to take the fruits of someone elses labor. Most people ( The majority ) are just plain stupid. What you get in a Democracy is a lowest common denominator system of government.

I still don't understand the fascination so many in America have with the 'European' ways of life. Their politics, etc. Why are they supposedly the 'standard' for all thing good and right in the world?? They've got some serious f'd up problems over there and they certainly don't have the 'answers' for a Utopian society.

My ancestors left Europe for a reason. They hated it over there and wanted the freedom and liberty and the opportunities it afforded them here in the US. They learned the language, became legal citizens and considered themselves Americans, not Swedish-Americans, not German-Americans, not Irish-Americans, not English-Americans, not Danish-Americans, etc. - but Americans, period. They expected their children to speak English, they expected their children to act like Americans. They supported the war effort. They believed in this country. Now, a couple generations later, everyone seems to want to run back to the damn place they worked so hard to leave in the first place! It's a disgrace, and it dishonors the sacrifice that those who came here before us made to secure a new life in a better place. I think if they were still around they'd be pretty sick at what has transpired in this country.

I'm also a certified member of the Mayflower society, having proven my lineage to one of the folks on the Mayflower. They came here for religious freedom and today those who believe as they did then are being shamed for their beliefs, being told they can't believe what they do. Pretty crappy places we're in right now. A sorry state of affairs.

Europe can keep to itself and if anyone is in love with the socialism, high taxes, unchecked/unvetted immigration and other problems over there, please, for all that is good and right, pick your lazy a$$ up and get over there and stay there - and take all your buddies with you too. I'm sure it will be the most wonderful thing you can possibly imagine.

EDIT to add: I have no personal grief against Europeans themselves, I have many friends "over there" and they are great folks. I simply don't see the ideal that is in this country today to try and make us like them. We are different, let's keep it that way. And if it's not obvious, I am no fan of the idea of Globalism. Sovereignty is the way baby!

6 out of 8 of my great grandparents were born in Europe and immigrated to the US. There must have been a compelling reason to uproot and go to live somewhere else that is far away and very different than what they were used to. But even the 2 that were born here their ancestors had immigrated here in the early 1700's. Except for the Native Americans(if you go back far enough they are also immigrants)the people who live in the US are all immigrants. There are probably as many reasons for their coming here as there are immigrants. But for whatever the reason for their immigrating to the US they found a land of opportunities and more freedoms that they could ever dream of where they came from. It wasn't perfect and still isn't but it was many times better than where they had come from. They got jobs or started their own businesses, sent their children to be educated in schools, they leaned English, they studied to to pass the citizenship examinations and were very proud when they passed the exams and were finally sworn in as American citizens. They probably loved and appreciated this country more than those born here. They took their rights and also obligations seriously as they knew what it was like to live under a government that controlled everything and you had no rights, just privileges that could be granted or revoked at any time. To bad today a lot of people have either forgotten these things or else have turned their back on them, the things that make us Americans, free and proud.
