The road rage capital is in… Oregon?

While busy streets and bumper-to-bumper traffic would seem to make major cities the perfect place for road rage, the survey found that America's road rage "capital" is actually Eugene, Oregon!

Using data from Twitter, the poll found that for every 100,000 people, 500 #roadrage tweets came from this Pacific Northwest town. That's over 100 more than the next closest location — Atlanta, Georgia. Interestingly, famously congested areas like New York and Los Angeles didn't even make the top 20 cities for road rage.
Seems more likely that the Twittter-pated are just denser there.

Eugene is a center of economic support for the surrounding hinterlands. A lot of rural people go to Eugene to get supplies and parts that are not stocked in the smaller towns in Lane County. Many of these people have firearms handy because of thinner law enforcement coverage in their area of normal activity. They keep the guns in the vehicle, and don't remove them just to go to Eugene.

Journalists overwhelmingly live and work in areas with more intense police coverage. Even when they live in places like Portland, Chicago, New York City, or Baltimore. In those places police coverage will be concentrated in certain areas. Wealth, political power, institutions that support the wealthy and powerful (look in the mirror, journalists) get the benefit of concentrated police coverage.

The rest of us have to look out for ourselves.
