Welcome!
AMT beat me to it. I've not needed anything but my DL. In the old days a CHL overrode the waiting period, but being vetted by the State Police isn't enough to satisfy the jackwads in this state...

blurred lines - kinda one and the same

You guys have no clue about how good it feels to get out of the PRK.
Quit trying to drag the new guy down. He's got way more freedom in OR than he had in California. Let him enjoy it.

ok ok... I guess compared to PRK, it must seem like paradise. so yes, enjoy it while it lasts. a democrat supermajority cannot, will not, tolerate too many freedoms and what freedoms they do allow we will be taxed to the hilt to pay for it. carry on.

I know what its like to escape the west coast entirely . Its a very good feeling indeed.

Welcome, as others have said you should only need Oregon DL with current address, save yourself a hassle later on and get the real ID license. If you have a common name it can take longer but for many of us approval is instant. I strangely have two middle names, that's helped me, but also having a CHL helps and you should do that anyways so you can help strangers and loved ones if the need arises.

As many have said, OR's gun laws are much better than CA's - so it will be a bit of a shock how much non-regulation there is. The only thing you have to carry over from CA is the Universal Background Check (UBC) @ FFL for private party sales/transfers, and red flag laws.

Another way to think about OR's gun laws are that, they are much closer to states without any additional regulation, beyond the federal laws. In comparison with say, Texas, or our neighbor Idaho, the only differences are the UBC and red flag laws.

That means, no restrictions on types of firearms you may own, no ban on NFA items, no mag caps, no waiting periods, no gun approval lists, no cap on number of guns you may purchase per month, no registration, no required classes, no safe storage law, ammo sales are not restricted to FFLs, etc.

The only word I'd add to the above sentence is, yet. OR is certainly the least restricted of the west coast states for now, and hopefully will remain so. However, it is easy to see how more restrictions could come to pass.

Concealed carry wise, OR is shall-issue state-wide (unlike CA), and has a state pre-emption law so you may carry the same way in all counties. OR is weird in that it does not recognize any other state's concealed carry permit, but as an OR resident now, that may not be something you have to worry about.

Welcome Aboard. Glad you found the forum.

This is the best place to hang out on the internet.

Once we're able to start using the public lands again, check out the organized clean ups. It's the best way to meet the community and learn where and how to use public lands responsibly.

Until then check out Trash No Land.

New member here from Kalifornia.
I've been lurking here for a while now and finally introducing myself. Damn, it feels good to be in a much freer state.
I know Californians go through a stringent process in owning a firearm and from what I read, its almost the same here except the 10 day waiting period and handgun roster.

Looking to make my first purchase as an Oregonian and if someone can kindly give me info as to what I will need when meeting a seller at a FFL?
1. OR DL 2. Proof of residency (vehicle registration and/or utilities bill) anything else?

Thanks all and looking forward in protecting the 2A at my new state and continue to educate myself and non gun owners about the 2A

As long as you have an OR ID you don't need a vehicle reg or utilities bill or anything. Just your ID will suffice

I just took mt CHL class from PDX Arsenal today.
I received my OR DL last week and signed up.

Looking forward in learning more about the OR laws and hopefully, more lenient, than the ones I was use too in CA

'One man's meat is another man's poison'.

I live in the UK and for me Oregon is nothing less than a paradise where guns are concerned.

If you have 5% of something, then even 25% is a HUGE gain.

I've just made 150 rounds of 6.5x55 Swedish ammuntion for my ONE Carl Gustaf rifle. Why only 150 rounds when I have a couple of thousand bullets?

It's because that's ALL I'm allowed to have in my possession at any one time, as with ALL my ammunition. Except my .22cal. For that I'm allowed 600 at any time - about as much as you shoot on a reasonable trip to the range, right?
