So I'm not normally politically active, aware yes, active... eh I vote? does that matter?

Anyways, after 30 years, I am officially pissed off enough about the time change to do something about it! And because we live in a representative democracy, I fully intend to do something about it, and frankly, it is a bi-partisan issue.

I will be calling, and writing my senators, and other elected representatives every day until I get this changed and I invite all of you to do the same.

To start you off with some boiler plate. Here's the letter I sent to my senators this morning.

Good Morning Senator,

I am writing you today to express my frustration with a policy that was originally implemented during wartime, that kills untold numbers of Americans, and greatly threatens the health and safety of the rest. I am talking about the change from standard time to daylight time.

Every year numerous people are killed or injured in traffic accidents caused by drowsy drivers after the time change. Farmers and farm animals are upset by the change in routine, not to mention untold millions of other Americans who are forced to be awake earlier, causing undue stress in their home and work lives.

It behooves you as the champion of public safety you purport to be to end this menacing practice. Whether DST becomes the permanent time or not, it does not matter. The only factor that matters is that from now, till forever the only time I am forced to change my clock is when I find myself in a different timezone on purpose!

End this practice now!

Sincerely,

Your Constituent

I am definitely on this band wagon.
By what means are we "saving" daylight by changing the clocks anyway?
It still gets light every morning and dark every night.

I would recommend starting at the state level, like Arizona did.
Enough states bail on the practice and the Fed will follow suit.

This was all started so politicians could golf longer in the evening and sip their mint juleps!
It didn't have jack squat to do with farmers, they can tell when it's light out.

Well, I just e-mailed my state assemblyman who is a real go-getter. His first day in office, he introduced a bunch of anti-illegal alien bills, and has been a big fat "f--- no" on new taxes.

I added this to my addresses to my state reps:
Daylight Saving Time, as is well known, is a federal statute requiring people to set their clocks one hour ahead between the first Saturday in April and the last Saturday in October. Under Federal law, any state may by law elect to exempt either the whole state, or all of the area within that state that lies within any one time zone, from Daylight Saving Time.

Also, good stuff INABIS '98 - Sleep Deficit, Fatal Accidents, and the Spring Shift to Daylight Savings Time

and Unhappy Hour - John J. Miller - National Review Online

Several States do not recognize Daylight savings. In Arizona we got home at the hottest part of the day. SO it was cancelled.
Oregon can decide not to do it. The only thing I heard from a politician was it helped the dairy farmers? Really - the cows are tied in to Daylight Savings time?
MOst farmers, ranchers and others they say it is helping - actually get up when they need to .

SO I agree - no more switching back and forth -
BUt lets join Mountain time - That way we can get home and the sun might be out.

Wouldn't your time and energy be better directed at ending the BATFE, which is a genuine danger to our liberties?

That's something that I could go for

It's like fluoridated water, the end of gold standard, the Trilateral Commission, the Free Masons, and the designated hitter rule. Socialist plots, every one of 'em. The only time I'll spring forward will be with a fixed bayonet, and I'll only fall back when the ammo is exhausted.

We like it it gives us another hour of daylight to pave roads or do other construction work during construction season. We are a profit sharing company (to the point no one in the field even bothers taking a lunch) So daylight savings time is a money maker for me.

WHAT? Daylight savings time gives you another hour of daylight? WTF? It only SHIFTS the clock, it doesn't change the rotational speed of the earth!

he didnt say it made the day longer. DST shifts the hour of sunset back an hour. I wouldnt mind if it got shifted back two hours to be honest. I like flouridated water too and hormones in beef making girls breasts bigger doesnt bother me either.

Reading comprehension test for wired:

"Another hour of daylight" means to me that if you had 7 hours of daylight, you now have 8. Just like another apple means one more apple than you previously had.

Daylight savings time clearly does not increase the hours of daylight, but the statement "another hour of daylight" does mean an additional hour (an increase) of daylight.

That might be what it means to you but everyone else knows it means you have another hour of daylight in the evening. Of course you have one less in the morning. There arent too many people simple enough to assume the phrase "another hour of daylight" means one actual hour more of daylight in the 24 hour day. God damned American public school system.
