My wife is a teacher and she said it is done first period of the first day of the week. In other districts it was everyday. When I was a kid, it was recited everyday in both the public and private schools I attended, but that was a long while ago.

I always figured that not saying the pledge of allegiance thing was an urban legend. Every school my kids have gone to in WA, CA and OR they have said the pledge daily.

We need to start by bringing the pledge of allegiance back into our schools!! This is America for god sake if you don't like it or it offends you then leave!!!

Forcing children to recite anything written by a socialist (francis bellamy), and then forcibly adopted by congress in a time of war (1942) by another scumbag socialist is something that offends me practically beyond words. And if you want to demand it be said, you get the hell out. This is not a socialist country, never has been, never will be.

well sir everyone is entitled to there opinion. I can tell you this I'm not leaving. I served this country and as far as I'm concerned the pledge of allegiance is a part of our history that makes this country great.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, european jingoism has no place in america. I would imagine by now you read up on what I was talking about and are now simply being defensive, it's ok, I was largely being hyperbolic. We tend to think of things that happened before we were born as permanent and ancient.

The rituals and symbols are never things that made us great, or made america a better place, it was the people, never perfect, but they always had a willingness to do two things: To stand up in what they believed in, and tell authority to go f- itself. Loyalty to the nation and it's people is a lot different than loyalty to the government.
