Is that really a thing? I hate to ask, but what would disqualify someone from being on the list? Maybe high school kids during homecoming week...
It actually is. Kind of like a coop thing. If you aren't on the list she won't sell to you. My wife gets a text telling her eggs are ready and she runs right over.

My local egg farm lady is 3 blocks down from me. Her chickens are all over her 4 acre yard. .Happiest chickens ever. 30 of them or so. We are on her list of authorized egg buyers. Free range eggs $4 a dozen. Its all my wife will buy uynless it gets too cold or too hot out and the ladies go on strike.
i'v been to a few commercial egg operations,
hauling reject eggs for mink food, organic fertilizer for organic apple orchards.
my dad raised chickens.
cleaning the chicken coop, (not fun.)
a mouse would run out,,,, the chickens would go ape.
chase it down and eat it.

pasture raised eggs for me. thank you!

Free range eggs are the only thing our state goobmint will allow to be sold in wa. Don't know what "free range" means, or what the egg farmers have to do to qualify. I'm sure that law was passed for the good of the chickens, not the consumer. Chickens probably vote too in this state!

It means they aren't kept in a 16"'x16'"cage all day long. . They can walk around outside at least half the day. And yes it was done for the good of the chickens. Commerical egg farms are a circle of hell.

Winco is our preferred grocery.
Ditto. Eggs were 50 cents per today, limit of two cartons IIRC. I had about half a carton (10 eggs) at home, but I went ahead and got another carton. I only use about 4-6 eggs per week - usually on the weekends when I make myself poached eggs for breakfast. So a carton of 18 lasts me over a month.

Maybe cheaper to hatch the eggs and get some new egg layers?

WINCO is loaded with eggs, and no "cover charge" to get in the door.
I specifically went to Winco last night to shop for eggs. Their cheapest were $5.99 a dozen. That's actually slightly higher than the cheapest eggs at Safeway. That's a switch.o_O

Eggs at New Seasons, $5.99/18.

That pricing beats even Costco pricing…

Oh wait, I shouldn't have told you guys, now there's going to be competition for da eggs.
Damn straight!
Note to self:
Die hair blue, buy some Crocks, go to New Seasons, grab all the eggs they'll let me carry out the door!

That picture is starting to grow on me.

Time to lay in a supply of Lotrimin.

Man, talk about egg farms.. I saw what happens to the boy chicks after they hatch...
When I was a youngster, we had a dozen dairy farms around our little community. My dad would get us holstein calves to raise as 4-H projects. Later, I worked on a dairy farm when I was in high school. On the farm, bull calves were hit in the head with a hammer and thrown in what they called "the jew pit". Then I realized, Dad was getting those 4-H projects for nothing! Those big steers became like pets and would chase us across the pasture like a 1500 lb dog, just wanting to play. They tasted fine though, after we got past the fact that we were eating a pet.:(
