Newberg Fred Meyer has 500 round bricks of Federal on the shelf for $24.95, kind of spendy but not exhorbitantly so.
Krap, wish i was closer to newburg.. I went to south eugene bimart today.. no .22 ammo, but they had 2- ruger 10/22's were around $200.00

I've shot prairie dogs with a 22 out to about 135 yds or so and it did ok. One thing is it's quiet enough out of a long barrel that it doesn't spook 'em. Beyond that I used the 17 or 223 though.

Looks like a 22lr has about the power of a 22 short at 300 yards. It starts dropping like a rock after that. Take a look for yourself::s0155:

With my 10/22, at 150 yards I can take a quarter out all day long... It may not pack the punch of a .223 at that distance, but without eyes or a heart not much moves with any lethal threat. For B/O, I can carry a 10/22 and thousands of rounds easy and that leaves room for a 9MM and a decent amount of rounds...

I have shot cross canyon into a soft dirt slide using some sort of a visible projection as a target. Having to hold over an estimated 18-20 feet with no range finder handy. For years I wondered just how far that was. With a good 3-9 Burris on a bright day the pills were still kicking up dirt after seconds in flight. It will sting you, even at unimaginable range.
From what I understand, more civilians are killed by the misunderstood .22 rim fire than any other cartridge.

I'll give it a hundo, and if I can't effectively dispatch a target at that range I'll sell every long gun I own. But IMHO, my .22 is a last resort.
