NSA SPYING: REMEMBER BRANDON MAYFIELD?
Carl F. Worden
June 14, 2013

Most people won't remember who Brandon Mayfield is. He was an attorney in Portland, Oregon who was falsely arrested by the FBI in 2004, allegedly because his partial fingerprint was found on a package of bomb detonators left behind after the train bombings in Madrid, Spain. The problem was that it was not his partial fingerprint, and Spanish authorities tried to tell the FBI it wasn't his, but they weren't listening.

Instead, probably encouraged by the fact Mayfield was a converted Muslim who had represented Muslim defendants, the FBI used the Patriot Act to search Mayfield's home and office without a regular warrant and without his knowledge. While in custody, the FBI threatened Mayfield with the death penalty if he didn't cooperate, and the whole episode put the Mayfield family through Hell.

Once Mayfield had been exonerated of any involvement in the Madrid bombings, he sued the feds and was compensated $2 million dollars.

How does that effect me, one might ask? Well, let's say some international terrorist dials the wrong number and rings your telephone. You answer, talk to the stranger for a few moments letting him know he has the wrong number and then you go about your everyday routine. What you don't know is that the NSA picked up the connection between you and the terrorist, and is beginning to investigate you, your friends, your family and anybody you call. If you are a Muslim, that adds fuel to the investigative fire burning right under your behind. Your home, business, cell phone and computer will be clandestinely searched after a secret FISA judge rubber-stamps a secret search warrant, and you won't have a clue they were ever there. How do you think the FBI made the connection between the two alleged Boston Marathon bombers and their friend in Florida? In case you haven't been keeping up, the FBI killed that unarmed friend in Florida during an FBI interview, and I would really like to know the true circumstances of that killing.

By their own statements, believable or not, the NSA only tracks phone numbers without examining the content of the conversation, but there is every indication that conversation has been recorded and is only visible to the investigators when they get the FISA warrant. But what you don't know is that before leaving your residence and business undetected, the investigators have bugged every inch of your home and business to see what comes up -- just to be safe. If you turn out to be a drug dealer, or if you have incriminating downloads on your computer like child porn, or if you are merely a concerned citizen who writes things critical of the government, there's nothing to stop the feds from using that information to persuade you to cooperate, or to use that information to investigate your family and friends the same way they did you.

You would have to be blind in one eye and unable to see out of the other one to believe we're not living in a police state, all allegedly to keep you safe from terrorists, but then you have to remember that DHS has gobbled up millions of rounds of hollow-point ammo, creating a civilian shortage, while arming just about every town's police department in America with IED-resistant armored vehicles, as if they are expecting a major war rather than the offhand chance a terrorist or two might slip past our border and commit an act of terror. The last time I checked, al-Qaeda doesn't field an army big enough to invade the U.S., so I again insist the NSA and DHS are preparing for war, not with a brigade of terrorists storming our beaches, but against American citizens who will resist a complete revamp of our Constitution and our way of life once the U.S. economy collapses. The only reason the U.S. economy has not collapsed already is because things are worse overseas and foreign investments in the U.S. markets have dramatically increased, in addition to the fact the Federal Reserve is continuing to print and infuse non-gold-backed paper money to the tune of $85 billion dollars per month.

What is troubling is that Republicans like Peter King of New York and others are attempting to convince the American public that the NSA program should continue, allegedly because it has been useful in stopping terror attacks in the U.S., but no specific cases are mentioned. In the meantime, two Muslims with clear Russian ties and who traveled to Russia, allegedly bombed the Boston Marathon without being detected or stopped. Another Muslim recently shot up Santa Monica, California with a state-banned military-style semi-automatic rifle and state-banned high capacity magazines in a state where almost no one is allowed a permit to carry a concealed weapon that could have been used to stop that attack. The NSA spying program didn't detect him either, but they will insist that if the NSA program had been in place before 9/11/2001, they would have been able to detect and stop the terrorists who destroyed the twin towers in New York and damaged the Pentagon. And we're supposed to believe them? I suggest we don't.

The Patriot Act was the gateway drug that has led to this massive data collection by the NSA, which is currently constructing a massive data-collection center in Utah right now to hold all that data, and if you believe all they are collecting are telephone numbers, and not the content of those calls, texts, tweets and e-mails, why need all that capacity? You already know the answer.

Snowden is being called a traitor for leaking NSA information to the American public. Does this mean the American public is the enemy?

This is it. I was looking at some of the threads over on the AR forums...people seem to think he's some sort of criminal for enlightening the American people about our overreaching government.

Obviously we are the bad guys, if the .gov is so concerned with monitoring all of our movements. I hope he can stay hidden.

The irony of it all is that John Kerry has called Snowden, "a traitor to our country". Considering, Kerry is a well-known traitor, himself, who should have been imprisoned for his actions, I just find it ironic. We more or less have elected Jane Fonda and her ilk into the White House.

I don't know why more people don't understand that, Burt. I see you repeat it here, over and over again, and it's absolutely the truth. Voting is a myth, freedom is a myth. The oligarchy is very firmly in place, and nothing we do, politically anyhow, matters.

That is simply because people don't want to accept that they have no say, and very little control over their own future and circumstances. That they have owners.

Comforting ideas and delusions are accepted with open arms. Hard truth is simply discarded.

I'm sure to get flamed big time for this but this guy ought to be given a fair trial then properly sentenced for being a traitor. Like it or not he violated quite a few laws he swore to keep confidential. Here we have a high school drop out making US policy. This guy needs to be tried and hanged.

We give him a pass then where do we draw the line? In my opinion this piece of trash is on par with John Walker, Robert Hannsen and Aldrich Ames.

No bubblegume! He is an oathbreaker and probable traitor. I carried a TS/SCI clearance and I've seen what damage the above three bastidges did at the classified level as well as that POS traitor Clayton Lonetree. Snowden could have blown the whistle in the US. I won't lose a bit of sleep if he disappears via a little old fashioned wet work although I'd truly like him caught and tried.

Brutus Out

^ Someone who stands up to tyranny is a traitor? Interesting logic. He wasn't spying for the Chinese, his revelations were for the American people. Everyone has the right to their own opinion I guess.

They say it is in our DNA to worship authority and gravitate toward enslavement, so I guess I understand.

The simple truth is that what Snowden has exposed is a conspiracy by the Obama administration, the US intelligence agencies and other arms of the state apparatus against the democratic rights of the American people and humanity as a whole. That is the reason why a vast international legal, police and diplomatic operation is under way to track Snowden down and, in one way or another, silence him.

Yeah, I don't think he has any intention of releasing the info to any foreign government, it was solely because he wanted to warn Americans of the treasonous behavior of their own government. That's why they are making such a huge deal out of this, they got some egg on their faces and it is interfering with the agenda, if it was a simple spy thing, we would have never heard a word...The govt wants to ruin his credibility, they want the American people to just lay down and go back to sleep...Unfortunately for them, more and more people are waking up every day.

Now, if he was selling the info to other governments with ill intent, then it would be another story, but that was not his goal.

Same applies to Bradley Manning. No traitor, only a truth teller. He gave Amerika a black eye and Obummer doesn't like it. But we believe in torture and all the evils of the Nuremburg trials. Amerikans are such a messed up group including our fearsome leaders. When will we ever learn?

Tempora: The Americans And The British Are Recording All Phone Calls And All Internet Activity | The Daily Sheeple

If the American people do not demand change now that all of this has been publicly revealed, it will be a signal to those that are doing the spying that they can go even farther with their spying because people really don't care. And it will be a signal to the rest of the world that we have fully embraced tyranny.

Well, as stated above, Americans are pathetic sheep so the 'demand' will be very short lived.

I'm afraid that most people really don't care.

Today's youth are the product of decades of careful social planning. Incapable of independent thought. The elite have finally got what they have been striving for - a population of controllable drones in a hive.
