Committee members,
I'm writing to you as a (pick one or add your own) veteran / spouse / family member / friend of someone who has committed suicide. I urge you to please bring SHB 1181 to a hearing and strongly recommend you support this bill.
Suicide rates are unacceptably high, particularly amongst veterans and military service members. 65% of veteran suicides were by firearm. This bill will absolutely help to reduce the single largest component of gun deaths in Washington.
The funding requirements are very low and mostly self-sustaining, which is critically important while budgets are so tight this year.
