Now a days, that may be less defiant rhetoric, more likely a self fulling prophecy.

Recently, I came by the "cold dead hands" analogy so prevalent, and possibly over used, throughout the decades, and realized its weight and meaning has changed considerably for me over the years.
When I was young, in my hart, it was an implicit expression of my true belief and fortitude towards love of country. While I'm still there in mind, considering my age and health, it may mean I've just died of natural causes!
