1) "The BGC is just to check if you've been a good boy or not since your last purchase."
No, it's bait-and-switch registration.

2) "Ferguson would be hard pressed to find his adz with both hands."
That doesn't stop any of them from being anathema to our liberties.

3) "Even in the PRK, they have some sort of reason for the warrant."
They can always make up a reason. The BOR was declared null and void in the DPRK a long time ago.

4) "So no, the government doesn't know every gun everybody owns - but they are working on it - that is the main reason behind the BGC laws."
When they stuff the door they will take everything, and you will be lucky to survive.

5) " And catalogs all the pohrn you watch too "
Not be a goodie-two-shoes, but watching porn makes as much sense as looking at a photo of a pork chop or watching a video of people eating to assuage hunger.

While I don't like to assume ....I will do so in this case.

Any firearm transaction that uses a FFL / 4473 has a record attached to it.
And while that is a mountain of paperwork / data to keep track of , as well as lots of manpower to do so....

I have no doubt that if someone really wanted to find out if I owned a particular firearm , they could do so.

I saw a documentary some time back, you are partially correct. The atf doesn't have boxes or rooms full of out of business ffl records, they have shipping containers full of records they haven't gotten to. Much to our benefit they lack the money or manpower to move any faster than they do.

back when person to person transfers were legal once a gun changed hands two or three times it was virtually untraceable.

for all you conspiracy numbskulls, just ask yourselves " where did the money come from to do the things you think the government does"
show me a line item in any state or federal budget that funds ANYTHING you are fantasizing about.
show me a government employee or elected official who is smart enough to run ANY of the schemes you fantasize about.

It just isn't there.

Ever listened to the phone call the FFL makes (in Oregon anyway) when they do a background check? They give the type of firearm, the make, caliber, and serial number. They're not just running a background check on you, there is data collection being done on what you've bought. State is not supposed to keep records, but does anyone actually think they're not? Think the ATF isn't keeping records? I've got a bridge to sell anyone who honestly believes that.

I have never in my lifetime known the Govt to one single efficiently. I strongly suspect that this will be a cluster bubblegum like everything else they set out to do.

Yeah, you guys keep posting that, but do any of you have any idea what MILLIONS of forms stacked in containers is? Another bubbleguming Govt cluster bubblegum. It would take years to get any usable data from it if they start today.

They don't need the paper - online entry into the BCG system - the whole database could be stored on a flash drive.

I think that shall be determined by how inspired they are. If we have another Major Mass Shooting (red flag event or not) they will use their majority rules to enact some serious restrictions if not outright ban.......:(

The only possible saving grace will be if one of the good guys(civilian ccw carrier) takes the active shooter down before they can do damage......but then it just won't make the news:s0001:

As for old detective work there is a reason that 4473 is REQUIRED to be kept on file for 20 years and in the event you close shop as an FFL you must send it in for records by the ATF. That 4473 has every detail about you on it.

^^Yes. The 4473's are req'd to be kept on file by your FFL for a period of time (I thought it was indefinitely, could be wrong..). That info must be provided by the FFL to the ATF upon request. The ATF is Federal. In Oregon you also have to create an account with OSP. I don't know how long OSP maintains records. Someone told me OSP gun purchase records are expunged every 30 days. However, I assume Oregon could get cooperation from the ATF if it needed to.

Long story short, yes they can find you.

DNR

I don't care.

If a person is ordered to turn in guns, or license them, or pay a tax, and they refuse....
Do we really think they will fill jails with people that refuse to obey their illegal laws?
Will they build new jail space to house Americans that refuse to abide by their illegal laws?

If all this gloom and doom talk comes true, in the end we'll have no guns and no ammo anyway.

I'm old enough now I don't give a bubblegum!

When the Jack-booted thugs come for our guns, they are going to do a house to house search. Top to bottom and take them all, not just the ones they "know" about.

A more likely scenario:

The confiscation agency will send you a polite letter letting you know that the list of guns they know about need to be "bought back" by the state (likely starting with "assault" rifles), failure to comply will result in a warrant for your arrest. They will not serve the warrant at your house, they will patiently wait for a traffic stop and serve the warrant at that time. Then they will contact members of your household to turn in the guns on the list to secure your release with the promise of dropping all charges. Once the guns are secured, and prior to your release, they will red flag you (due to your non-compliance with the initial request) and search your house for remaining firearms. Once all the weapons have been secured by the state you will then be released. The uphill legal battle to clear the red flag and get back the guns that were not "assault" rifles will be made prohibitively expensive and time consuming to prevent most from clearing the flag.

It is not safe to assume that any information typed into any device or spoken near any microphone can be permanently deleted. Whether it can or will be accessed for evil intent is another matter entirely, but $#!+ is getting weird lately.

It is indefinite/ for as long as the store operates. My old LGS in San Jose CA had been in business since the 60's. I heard him fielding calls from BATFE asking about guns he sold in the 70's. They were massive time wasters for him, but he still had the records in his shop.
