As for weapon of choice? Hmmm....
Simce all one seems to have to do is mash up the brain matter a little to re-kill a zombie... I'd say a ruger 10/22 with a bull barrel, and a couple dozen of those 50rd drums. Put a 4x optic on it and go to zombie destruction mode.
22LR Stingers would seem to be quite adequate, and they are available at most any place you'd scrounge ammo at.

That or a Saiga-12 fully modded and fed from one of many MD's 20rd drums loaded with magnum slugs. ...just sayin.
