No matter where you stand on ethanol, we're getting screwed. Be it on the taxes (per gallon) or the price at the pump.

Ethanol contains much less energy in a given volume to that of gasoline, or diesel, or even natural gas. This is a scientific fact. The boys running alcohol dragsters have always known this. The jets in a carburetor of an alcohol funny car for example are massive when compared to their gasoline counterparts.

IMO, this is nothing more than a hidden tax and/or price increase to ultimately subsidize corn farmers.

Oh and does anyone really believe they are going to stop diluting gasoline at 15%?

The left knows this has to be done very slowly for it to be accepted (insert boiled frog analogy here) and they are very patient. They'd love for all of us to on some sort of public transport, or even driving some sort of car that runs on liberal tears and solar power with our chins between our knees, but even they know that is unrealistic. So they've set their goal on 100% ethanol. But they have to wait for dinosaurs (like me) to die off first. Then they'll have the low information crowd brainwashed into believing gasoline (and probably even diesel) is evil and ethanol will save the world.

Incremental regulation. It seems to work whenever it's tried. The best analogy to this is the anti 2A gun laws we all have to navigate now. Anyone remember when you could plunk your money down at the hardware store and walk out with a brand new gun?

Someone asked about reading: Check out alcoholcanbeagas.com
BTW, alot of disparaging info is in circulation about it. Ever wonder about a major source?
Try BIG OIL
They don't like it either, follow the money.
Too bad they don't mention the negative effects alcohols have on any fuel system not designed specifically to run it. IOW, the vast majority of cars on the road today.
Alcohols are hydroxylized hydrocarbons (methane+hydroxyl=methanol for instance). As such, all alcohols contain a free radical oxygen molecule capable of corroding even most alloys of stainless steel.
Then add in the fact that alcohols are hygroscopic, meaning they will pull moisture out of the air, and you have the recipe for disaster many users are experiencing presently. The absorption of water causes "phase separation" that causes the alcohol to become water logged and drop out of the mix, forming an un-pumpable goo that clogs fuel pickups and filters. Yes, alcohol LOVES water. Alcohol+water+time=non fuel.
What is left behind is fuel with an octane rating so low that even a low compression engine (8:1) won't run properly on it.
"Big oil" actually likes it for this reason. They can produce junk fuel that offers <80 octane, and with the addition of 10-15% ethanol, reach a minimum octane rating of 89-91.

So, unless you own a car built in the last 4-5 years, E15 will be bad for your car. Check your owner's manual.
Don't even think about using it in your boat or small engines, or anything with a carburetor, and definitely don't plan of storing for extended periods.

We can talk about what using corn for fuel has done to meat prices worldwide some other time. But it ain't pretty, regardless of what that propaganda site you linked says.
But then again, maybe they're vegans, and hate meat consumption anyway.

Once you figure what it takes to grow the crop, put in on a truck and drag it a couple hundred miles to the nearest refinery and cook it down, you've got about 1.6 gallons of gas equivalent for each gallon of fuel you've burned. Completely unsustainable.
