It isn't just economics that drives the output of domestic refineries. One of the side effects (benefits?) of the requirement for ultra-low-sulfur diesel imposed in 2005 was the decision of US refineries to export diesel instead of making expensive investments in equipment to remove enough sulfur to meet the new requirements. A strong global market for sulfur-infused diesel helped them make that decision.

Many state governments (like Oregon) passed laws prohibiting sale of high-sulfur diesel for off-road use, like farming and construction. This cut the domestic demand for HSD, and further encouraged its export.

Diesel shortages are caused by politicians, not capitalists.

They also cause inflation under the guise of their BS "corporate taxes".

People need to wake up and realize that businesses don't "pay" taxes…. they merely collect them for the government in the form of higher prices caused by the taxes.

Generally true most of the time.

Sometimes they eat the extra cost due to competition, but that is not the usual case. Even then, the cost usually gets passed on later.

Taxes on corporations are hidden taxes; we as consumers usually do not see the taxes, but we do pay them.

Yup, one of the primary lies of the anti capitalist crowd and a contributing factor in rising prices. Government wage mandates are another big one. Right now it is serious clown world, as many businesses are forced to raise wages to entice people to work, and then have to raise prices to stay profitable above the government minimum wage. The socialists are creaming their designer, made by underaged slave labor in a foreign country, pants over that.

…..and posting their ignorant drivel to social media on their $1,000 smartphones manufactured under the same general conditions abroad.

But ya know, those in the WH know more about business than those actually running the businesses. (ya, right!)
Idiot-in-Chief Biden will hafta refill every drop of gas/diesel he releases and at higher prices-- I've never seen any other President who could throw away more money

The US uses almost 20 million barrels of Oil a DAY Brandon dumping 15 Million barrels will barely get us to 4:30pm on ONE DAY. This is nothing but a sound bite for the deaf and dumb.

Yeah, those who have spent their ENTIRE adult lives in "public office" are more expert about everything than everyone.

It's called "narcissism".

Your money is if no object to Brandon and those of his ilk.

"Deaf, dumb, and dumberer".

$5.79/gal here for Diesel. Pumps keep shutting me off at $200. Have to use 2 credit cards to fill up if I'm near empty. Luckily I don't drive much anymore since I WFH these days. With my 65gallon fuel tank, I can hedge fuel when it's a bit cheaper for quite a while.

Unfortunately when I do drive, it's typically around a 500 mile trip one way, pulling a trailer.

Local stuff I can do 90% of on my motorcycle, which gets me 50mpg, but it puts me at extreme risk of being killed by a Tesla.

Can't have it all.

I did a smart thing last year after driving my truck to the dump; I filled up the 37 gallon tank with diesel while prices were below $3/gal

I drove it home and I have only used it on the property.
The trip odo says 17 miles since last spring. So I think that tank will last me a while. About 5 of those miles have been the last week driving back and forth to my back acreage to get firewood.

It rained today and will rain all this next week, so that is the end of getting firewood for this season - it will be just too muddy to risk going back there and getting the truck stuck in the mud. BTDT and it is not fun - one time I had to leave the truck stuck in the mud for over a month until the ground dried out.

Besides, my back has had enough of dealing with the firewood for now.

Always nice when you can stretch it out like that. Make sure you're treating it, especially during the winter.

I have a 16' dump trailer that does the firewood hauling. I can pick up several cords worth of green logs. Next is a PTO splitter for the tractor. My back and knees don't allow for a lot of this chopping nonsense either!

No biggie. We can just haul and grow our food and power our heavy equipment and heat our homes with electric and the parts leftover after gender reassignment surgery.
