I think everyone is getting to caught up in defining an "assault weapon". I don't want to get caught up in a semi auto/select fire argument. I will just say ar platform for ar15/m16/m4 platform. Most of us know that we civilians cant get a full auto unless we buy a pre 1986 transferable full auto/select fire and have around 20k to spend on one. If DHS wants to buy 7000 ar platforms good for them. Don't have a problem with that either.

What really pisses me off is here DHS is buying a "personal defense weapon" as they call it. When the government buys a AR platform it's a defensive weapon in there own words. In the artical they even explain why its a good defensive weapon.

Then when there talking out of the otherside of there mouth. If a civilian ownes a AR platform. The AR platform suddenly turnes into a dangerous high power "assault rifle" that must be taken off the street.

Its a total double standard. You can't have it both ways.

I read into it as they as in government can have a "personal defensive weapon"/AR platform, but you civilains even though guns are protected under the 2nd ammendment, and you have the right to defend yourself you can't have your "personal defensive weapon"/AR platform.

With that though it leaves me to believe that the AWB is an attempt to infringe on my rights to bear arms and defend myself. If a AR platform is good enough for them as defensive weapon, I should be able to defend myself with AR platform.

USCG falls under DHS, so maybe they are heading to Port Security Specialists.

Nope. I've been screaming for something newer and shorter than an ancient A2 for years, and they keep telling me we don't have the money for it. I find it a bit rediculous that my personal armory is more up to date and better maintained than my gov't issued equipment. IMHO, DHS is setting up for control and regulation of the American public. Why else are they ordering do much ammo, bulletproof guard shacks, and now rifles? They have their fingers in everything from the USCG to your local police department.

I didn't see it in the article, but which manufacturer are they buying from? More to the point, which manufacturer is willing to sell to them? That's a manufacturer that I will no longer purchase goods of.

wonder if the size requirement ties in with room available on mass transit means............it's pretty hard to fit an m4 in a duffle bag, harder with a standard 16" barrel requirement. concealment doesn't always mean on ones person (under clothes i meant lol).

and is that going to the dept. that already have one in their car also what would it look like to the public if they just put in an order for 50,000 instead in one shot? maybe people would see there is something up unless they had their head buried in the sand like some people around here

Yup, which is why they will "nickle and dime" their orders, so as not to "raise the alarm"

I could care less about the definition of a firearm... I want to know the why the hell we're creating another militarized branch capable of operating in the united states against it's citizens. Who the hell gave them permission to do that?!?

I am sorry but asp is correct, the whole DHS thing is entirely the Bush Juniors fault, while Obama is certainly playing it to the hilt, both parties are equally to blame for our own little version of the "Committee for Public Safety", the previous administration used 9/11, the same way the current administration is using Sandy Hook, to scare the electorate into giving them more power.

no he likes guns, unlike your present leader OBOZO or however he spells it
Then why in 2005 did imported barrels get banned?
Hmm?

You may be angry at the current POTUS, but it's just the same song and new dance of the authoritarian merry-go-round that's been around for a long long time.
