I think everyone is getting to caught up in defining an "assault weapon". I don't want to get caught up in a semi auto/select fire argument. I will just say ar platform for ar15/m16/m4 platform. Most of us know that we civilians cant get a full auto unless we buy a pre 1986 transferable full auto/select fire and have around 20k to spend on one. If DHS wants to buy 7000 ar platforms good for them. Don't have a problem with that either.
What really pisses me off is here DHS is buying a "personal defense weapon" as they call it. When the government buys a AR platform it's a defensive weapon in there own words. In the artical they even explain why its a good defensive weapon.
Then when there talking out of the otherside of there mouth. If a civilian ownes a AR platform. The AR platform suddenly turnes into a dangerous high power "assault rifle" that must be taken off the street.
Its a total double standard. You can't have it both ways.
I read into it as they as in government can have a "personal defensive weapon"/AR platform, but you civilains even though guns are protected under the 2nd ammendment, and you have the right to defend yourself you can't have your "personal defensive weapon"/AR platform.
With that though it leaves me to believe that the AWB is an attempt to infringe on my rights to bear arms and defend myself. If a AR platform is good enough for them as defensive weapon, I should be able to defend myself with AR platform.
