Tactical Handgun 2 (TH2) is our intermediate level handgun course. Prior to taking this class each student is required to complete our Tactical Handgun 1 course (TH1) or an equivalent level 1 course through a reputable company and be able to demonstrate intermediate level competency with a handgun. TH2 picks up where TH1 left off. Due to this we are able to keep this class light on lecture and heavy on live fire drills to rapidly increase the rounds fired over one day. Our main focus on this class is movement, using cover, and clearing malfunctions on the fly while utilizing cover and concealment. It is a very active and fast paced day that is designed to significantly increase each shooter's proficiency using real life scenario based training.
We begin with a quick live fire accuracy analysis to ensure students are still at a safe and competent level with respects to basic fundamentals and marksmanship. Immediately following, we then focus on 4 step weapons presentation while moving off line of attack. We then move straight into active reloads and malfunction clearing while moving off line of attack and utilizing cover. The next segments of drills involve firing under stress and with an accelerated heart rate from standing, kneeling and urban prone positions, in addition to how to properly fight back up to a standing position. We also focus drills on moving towards a target and firing, moving away from a target and firing, and moving laterally and firing. Another major aspect we cover is close quarters contact drills utilizing movement back away from and laterally away from the target, since many use of force encounters happen within a few feet of the shooter. To ensure the safety and longevity of our students, we can work around most physical limitations (contact us if you have concerns on limitations).
We finish the course with culmination drills designed to incorporate skills that students have learned and covered during the course to include firing while moving at multiple targets then reloading from cover to engage more targets. This class focuses on more realistic drills that better prepare students for the real-world situations you may find yourself in.
Pre-registration for this course is required. Individuals can sign up with payment, however if they sign up without payment they are required to bring cash or check with them to the course. Students will receive a certificate of completion of our Tactical Handgun 2 course, however the certification may not be used to obtain an Oregon Concealed Handgun License.
The pre-requisites to this course is the Tactical Handgun 1, or equivalent level course through a reputable company or Governmental level Criminal Justice training organization. Defensive Firearms Instruction staff can sign off on the HR 218 Qualification from this course, as well as Law Enforcement continued education (F6 training). Current Law Enforcement is required to bring their F6 form with them to the course if they wish to have this training count towards their annual continued education. Contact us directly with questions regarding how to properly fill out the F6.
