One the worst of their (calif) gun laws was the one where the SKS with detachable mag was sold/legally purchased with background check and transfer---then made illegal after the fact. This worries me because AK's, AR's are common here, legally purchased. You know their goal is to take them back/take them away after the fact. With obama ignoring the constitution and getting away with it, they are feeling empowered to strike.
There will be some states that will reject them but not Oregon.

After the fact you guys will say that voting a straight GOP (Conservative?)ticket on Local State & National elections would have been a better thing since all my other "Socially Liberal Voting Issues" were untouchable compared to 2A/RTKBA ...

The Idea that some of you think that the Republican Party is chock full of Far Right Racist Sexist Bigoted Homophobic Fundy Pentecostals & Presbyterians , Snake handler Southern Baptists & Bethel wannabes who want to break down the door to your Bedroom or put your Grandaughters Abortion Clinic out of business or bomb it or rip the plants out of your back yard pot grow is very telling of your mindset...

In Oregon in particular I think it's going to a very long, hard fight to dislodge the Dems. And the problem viv-a-vis gun isn't so much "liberal" thought, it's URBAN culture. Purely aside from the Californication of ths state (A non-trivial issue) the fact that the overwhelming majority of the population lives and increasingly urbanized life.

There's no exposure to firearms, no shooting or hunting family tradition and a "common wisdom" that guns are hideously dangerous and produce no societal good whatever.

That's much more of a recipe for disaster than ultra-libs. Cause the far lefties are actually pretty small proportion of the population.

I consistently vote GOP, even though I really despise the party in general. I think they are badly wrong on many, if not most issues. But particularly on the state level, a Republican-controlled legislature has very little in the way to enact the really STUPID things I worry about in Oregon or WA. And one thing I know they WILL do, is protect my 2A rights bwcause they've wrapped themselves so heavily in the issue for a couple of decades. No one's going to ban abortions or pass laws against being Gay in Oregon. Not if they ever want to get re-elected. So I hold my nose and vote GOP.

Now educating DEMOCRATS on guns and changing some minds is also important. And if you haven't taken a newbie out to the range yet this year, shame on you. positive exposure and education. That's the long game, but it's in the long term, the only real winning strategy.

3 years ago in Washington we had our legislative body ready to enact legislation to make us register our guns and thousands showed up and they caved.
The Bundy ranch debacle, thousands showed up and they left.
The ATF wanted to ban ammunition, hundreds of thousands wrote their reps and the ATF backed down, for now.

What does that show us? Resistance in NUMBERS is what the Government listens to but people need to get off their azzes and GET INVOLVED & WORK TOGETHER!!!!!!!

Once they take the guns away it doesn't matter how you vote, they will do what they want.o_O

I believe this is my first post on any thread other than saying Hi to all on this site.
They, the politicians, already do what they want without taking the guns. They know the people will not do anything and, by the time the next elections come around, will have forgotten.

If what you say is true then the Republicans would not control the house and Senate now, voters remember. Since democrats control the state house and Senate plus have a Democrat governor they will do what they want. It's up to us to let them know they will pay a price come election day but it's going to take a showing at the Capitol for them to know we mean it. You guys don't show up in protest then you might as well just turn in your guns now.o_O

So true JJ, people who vote for these snakes don't care about their (or ours) gun rights, at least a man can marry a man & get stoned though.....

World is funny, it used to be called "vices" the things people do that were considered bad. Drinking, drugs, gambling and prostitution were pushed by the mobs but now the state is making them legal and taking their cut. Yep the next big push will be prostitution and they will say how wonderful it will be to take the crime off the streets.

Nothing they do betters society, they just tax it. When the gun controls start up it will be another tax, a progressive tax that eats our rights. Funny how democrat voters see all the crap going on as progress.o_O

I haven't read the bill in it's entirety but where is all the money going to go? The "General Fund"? It doesn't cost that much money to run a data base if it passes.

I dunno about all that. Look at the Oregon health plan "web site" and what what that has cost. Then they just bailed on it and went with the fed site. Pretty much just trashing money left and right...mostly left.

The sooner Formerly "Free" Blue & Purple States folks realize that the Far Left & Left in their State Houses are going "Fast Track" to California style Socialism and draconian EPA regs and various other agenda implementations that will do more harm than good , the sooner the "Socially Liberal" folks here at this forum board may realize that its in their own best interest to ditch the Democrat Party for at least one election cycle.

Well why would they. Between having to pull a Governor out of office and all these other issues like local mayor scandals I see nothing that can make some of these folks open their eyes.

Well the left is none too smart when it comes to the issues but they are running out of money moving from state to state to avoid what they voted for.:D

We're all preaching to the choir when we talk about our opposition here. If you want to say stuff and make it official, I'd recommend attending and giving testimony, or at least sending an email for written testimony. The folks in the committee are supposed to review it, but when it actually comes to vote on the floor, the senators and later the representatives will see it as well.

The public hearing for SB941 is set for April 1st. The bill is totally getting fast tracked. I have to work that day (don't we all?), but I plan on sending in written testimony. I see some folks already have. To send in written testimony, send an email to one of the Key Contacts at the bottom of the Legislature page:
https://olis.leg.state.or.us/liz/2015R1/Measures/Overview/SB941

The Choir here has a few folks who can't seem to put their "Socially Liberal" "issues aside even for one election cycle because to them 2A/RTKBA is no more important than any other "Civil Right" or Social Justice hot button issue or perceived injustice perpetrated by Fundy Right Wingers ...
